Been saying this for over 2 years. People finally appear to be waking up to that fact. I actually feel after last night (and PNE, Boro, Bristol etc al where we are so predictable and largely pretty tippy tappy football, but of little end product), that McKenna has sadly taken us as far as HE can go.
The " project" under our Anerican owners is far bigger than this manager. He demonstrates minimal " learning" and adjustment. Its becone groundhog day game on game under him now. I've personally lost faith in him now. Question is, have the players? |
r.e. your last sentence, I've wondered whether 'we train longer and harder than other teams' (which was proclaimed when he came in) may be fine when you're winning every week, but may not be so palatable to (experienced) players when the results don't seem to show any benefit from this. Largely struggled through 77/78 - we won the FA Cup.
78/79 Indifferent to Christmas and then came good once the dutchmen were integrated.
79/80 9/9 - 26-10 - No wins and 1 draw during that period. Came good again and finished 3rd.
and then ultimately had the greatest season our history thereafter.

TBH i dont see how anyone could be under threat back in the 70s when they was barely a pot to pss in, pitches were mud baths and you basically had the same side for 5 years,

We created plenty enough chances, imo. 2.19 xG last night, which is pretty high. Akpom had two excellent chances at 0-0 and should really have converted at least one of them, we had other good opportunities too. We need to be more clinical for sure though. And we need to actually do the basics of defending, the goals we conceded last night were embarrassing. |

Strangely enough I only largeky remember the good times with Bpbby Robson. I can remember in our dodgy season we win the FA Cup ( i think we were 17th in Division One courting relegation most of the season).... maybe it was because i was so young back then and the game wasn't as it is now, skewed by ridiculous amounts of money, and having access to social media, and lots of others views, opinions and ITK comments. You just went down to PR every other Saturday and watched MOTD on a Sat night. How gloriously simple life was back then!
As a club we had no money ( only the very biggest clubs had money), the " rest of us" were very much on an even playing field, it felt and I honestly think expectations from fans were so much more realistic. However I do distinctly recal the NS calling for Bobby's head (couldn't tell you what the period of his tenure it was, but pretty early in it I think) only to be given a contract extension by the Vobboldz and it seemed everything blew over. As kids we'd have playground bets about who we thought would be champions that season ( it was never a forgone conclusion like ur is now), but we NEVER expected Town to be up there.
Town may currently have a "£200m group" ( realed out by every opposition manager as either an excuse as to why we beat them, or an who massage because they've beaten us)..... but this current squad ( sorry, " group") are not a bloody patch on Robsons teams, any of them. |  |

How is that disagreeing with what he said? xG is all factors up to the exact moment of the shot and has nothing to do with the actual shot itself.

I remember I used to mingle around the room to get close to the Robson/Cobbolds conversations whenever I was lucky enough to be in the directors box.
