The chant: "McKenna, sort it out" 10:51 - Oct 23 with 3969 viewsBobbychase

Is next-level village idiot stuff. With any manager's name. What do you think - he didn't realise we were losing until he heard it? What is it supposed to achieve?

See also: Making Chuckle Brothers memes featuring O'Shea and Greaves and sharing them on Twitter, moaning at Hirst as soon as he steps on the pitch and being absolutely mute until we go behind, then finding your voice to boo.

As usual on Tuesday, when the attendance was announced the club thanked us for "our support". What support? Place was silent until we went behind. Our defence was honking, as was McAteer (again) but let's be honest, the crowd has been poor this season unless we were cuffing the Blades or beating Norwich.

Yep, lower Sir Bobby after the second went in, although it was a small group and a hero - in my eyes - shouted them down quite eloquently from the back row.

A friend of mine was also given some stick for clapping the players off, as that wasn't allowed apparently.

Well, they didn’t exactly deserve a clap.

I cannot wait for George to have a run of goal scoring to shut up those idiots treating him like that. He's just become another easy scapegoat.

It's a disgrace the way some 'fans' can't wait to criticise him as soon as he's on.

No problem with frustration or moaning but this lot just enjoy slagging players off.

At Preston away I was behind someone who called the 'this new team' 'a bunch of c*"'ts'.

George Hirst is low on confidence at the moment and his game is suffering for it. He's lost his mojo. I'm reminded of his goal away at Barnsley when he did his golf celebration. He was buzzing.
I was in the NSL Tuesday night and he could clearly hear the abuse aimed at him and he looked over into the crowd in absolute dismay. He looked genuinely shocked a fan base could turn on him in the way they have.
No wonder he hardly made it out of the centre circle at the end of the game.
Mick had it right about a section of our fan base.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

It's called being a fan. You have the right to boo, I have the right to applaud.

"We support the Ipswich, if we're down or if we're up."

As the song goes.

And....

"Follow the Town. Up or down"

How many fans sung this at ko then an hour later were calling players c@nts and pussies?

O'Shea might wonder the same. Captains us to our first win over Norwich in 16 years and then finds himself being called a clown within two games.

I think I was too numb to either applaud or boo or anything. Just slunk off quietly, as did many. I don't begrudge any release of emotion whether negative or positive from any fan, whether I agree or not. Football for many fans is a release of frustrations etc from daily life. It is a therapy of sorts.

That can’t have been chanted on Tuesday surely, if so then they should have been told politely to shut up.

There's a lot of fans in the lower north who are getting long in the tooth and have been there for years but who no longer make any noise at all. Lower north should be where the noise comes from but I'd say less than half of the fans there actually get involved.

Yeah and I spend most of the game surrounded by yoof on phones, what do they do on these damn things?

The oldies right in the centre of the Northstand still belt it out

And these 'fans' will be the same people who claim that their negativity towards the team and individual can't dent their confidence!!! The epitome of entitlement imo.

Murphy outed himself as a reactionary idiot a long time ago.

He begged BA to come on his radio show when we were protesting against Evans, then spent the whole call defending Evans and telling us how out of order we were being.

Bloke’s a clown.

Just because Sitters wasn't clapping doesn't mean he booed.
I didn't clap either. I didn't think they deserved any applause after that pathetic showing.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

More worryingly, there are quite a few people saying they'd vote Reform or Tory. Absolute madness.

I've always felt that the "[Manager], sort it out" chant was supportive of the manager, in a roundabout kind of way.

We're not asking for him to be sacked. Quite the opposite - we're instead implying that we think he should be the one to make things better, not necessarily during the game in question but certainly in the weeks ahead, and that we have faith in him to do so.

But maybe that's just my personal, over-positive view of it!

That’s absolute rubbish the board did no such thing. I was at the game that night when the crowd turned on Robson after a run of defeats and Man Utd with George Best in his pomp absolutely battering us. At the time Robson didn’t have the achievements that McKenna has and was sacked from his two previous management roles so he had no credit with the fans and had spent the previous two seasons just about avoiding relegation.
What the board did do is call Robson in and apologise for the crowd’s reaction and offer Robson a ten year contract, Robson who thought he was going to be sacked agreed on the provision that the board released money to strengthen the team, which they did and Robson went out and purchased Allan Hunter from Blackburn and that was the start of Robson turning things around and the rest is history as they say!
I’m sure given time and support McKenna can get the best from this team he has assembled but the impatience was there for all to see at Portman Road on Tuesday evening!

We could use another Alan Hunter from Blackburn right now.

Yeah. The supporters spent £200 million on dross, and delivered 45 abject performances, and the worst season in our history.

Why don’t you look closer to home?

The nodding dog in the mirror. He nodded at McKenna being paid more than most champions league managers, nodded at every signing, nodded at Ashton being CEI, Chairman, and bottle washer, with his god complex.

So if you DO need to deflect and blame someone ‘not like me’

Take a look in the mirror.

Pure ego. You can’t process you were wrong about Ashton and McKenna - you can’t do it.., hurts your massive ego.., the club comes second doesn’t it.

So don’t lecture ANYONE about what support looks like…, I never say or do anything negative once a whistle go’s as you say it doesn’t help.

But between games…, the nodding dog routine has done FAR more harm than genuine constructive criticism.

You have Ashton the keys to the Ferrari with ZERO agency.., how’s that going with the man without a driving licence and a 35 year history of driving off cliffs?

Who knew. Not you and your nodding dog act, clearly.

ASHTON OUT. £200 million to be standing where Evans was with nothing.

You worry me far more than the boo boys. Your only concern is feeling bad about calling McKenna wrong.., far more dangerous.

Seeing people turn on Mckenna is really tough to see, I still believe he will turn it around and we will be ok but lose on Saturday that would be a 0 point week and the pressure and criticism of him will really ramp up I fear. Just makes me sad.

If we lost tomorrow there will be a lot more chants to sort it out. I wasn't one of them but I have no problem with people expressing their opinion
