| So this new Portal thing on the Cornhill… how does it work? 18:36 - Oct 23 with 1958 views | ITFC_Forever | (Ignoring obvious wags asking for a portal from Ipswich town centre to somewhere else, or to time travel). Does it randomly pick other places around the world so we can wave to them and them to us? I presume it’s not fixed on one location, and there’s a camera or something to show those on the Cornhill to whichever part of the world it’s featuring at that particular moment? How long does it connect to a place before it moves on? How many are there in the world? How long before some idiot vandalises it? | |

| So this new Portal thing on the Cornhill… how does it work? on 18:52 - Oct 23 with 1856 views | SitfcB | The portal will operate between 06:00- 23:00, with measures in place - such as CCTV - to monitor the structure. [BBC] Connects to Lithuania, Poland, Dublin, and Philadelphia on a timed rotation - continuous feed. [IBC] Loads of people moaning about it but it’s something different isn’t it, the usual ‘waste of money’ cries but it’s out of a completely different budget. Some more information here with some pictures from the different locations seeing Ipswich on the screen… https://www.portals.org/news/f [Post edited 23 Oct 2025 18:55]

Saw the usual moaning knobs on the EADT Facebook page…. Those who do nothing but knock the town. I like the idea of it - something different. Although the people who could see us would have wondered what the hell was going on if it had been in place on either of the Promotions Days.

I think it’s a brilliant idea. We spend sh*tloads driving people apart, so a little bit to bring people together gets my vote. IF people behave themselves. Or maybe a free for all, after the watershed session would be the most popular one!

Its cost us a claimed £335,000 of our money right, thats tax payer money, next time you suddenly complain about a tax rise or nurses & teachers not getting pay rises remember where tax money goes on stuff like this. Its from the government's (actually started under the Tories simply continued under Labour)Towns fund, £3.6billion pounds designed to boost economic growth UK wide, Ipswich got allocated £25million, but Ipswich have struggled to spend £11 million of it, dont ask where the other 14million went, we're still waiting for the Arras square redevelopment, which will be reclaimed by the government March 2026 if they dont spend it. So a £335,000 webcam that's so popular worldwide only 5 locations ever signed up, and we signed up to be the UKs exclusive site for 5 years. And people think Ashton is crap at signings

Granted, that money would work harder in the offshore account on one of the Lords, but sometimes it’s good to try something new!

I walked past on the way to work in the rain on Wednesday morning and there was no one showing any interest from either side (Lithuania if anyone was curious).
