| One for the board elders 08:46 - Oct 24 with 2491 views | itfc_bucks | What's the point anymore? Have woken up this morning and the world just seems to have gone to hell in a handcart. Yes it didn't happen overnight, but it's literally everything right now. Wars all over the world. Politics in the UK more obsessed with whether Prince Andrew did or didn't get up to anything with Epstein 25 years ago instead of actually dealing with important current matters, like the economy, the NHS, public sector generally. The rise of the batsht far right in the UK. Town couldn't win a fkin raffle. The weather is sht. Literally the only good news that I've seen in weeks is that our friend, who has stage 4 cancer diagnosis anyway, found anew lump and fortunately that's turned out to be benign, but literally everything just feels so goddamn futile at the moment. | |

Probably not far off actually. I had a pretty good lockdown, continued working full time, no traffic, parked outside my office door for free and actually moved house as soon as it was over, but, yeah, since then...

It's more the Prince Andrew boll0cks, to be honest. Yes, it's important, but it's 95% of the political bandwidth and we've got bigger problems.

Or at least, limit your intake. I try and just do Newsnight and C4 news (which is still probably too much) And get into self care...whether that's walking, cycling, baking, listening to music. .. And whilst the world has largely gone to.sh1t but tbh it's always been shit. Compared to the horrors of Ww1 and Ww2 I think we are in a much better place now. [Post edited 24 Oct 9:21]

| One for the board elders on 09:24 - Oct 24 with 1395 views | Ryorry | I accidentally discovered Autumn Watch Calm about 3 days ago on c601 FV (I think it’s BBC RB1). It’s Autumn Watch without any speech or music, just the sounds and video of the natural world at this time of year from various locations in the UK (including underwater!). Stunning, spirit-lifting stuff; the only thought it leaves you with is “we HAVE to preserve our natural world at all costs”. | |

Cracking open a bottle of organic champers here .... the voters in Caerphilly chose wisely Proof that the unpleasant incompetent racists will not sweep to power in the UK if decent people do the decent thing and apply a bit of tactical voting

Yes, a better result than expected. It at least shows that it’s not a forgone conclusion Reform will win. Plus here in Wales it elevates Plaid as a serious option if/when Welsh Labour implode thanks to Westminster Labour’s approach.

Yep, stopped watching TV news a couple of years or so ago apart a few minutes sometimes. You can keep in touch by listening to radio news and reading on here, but not seeing the actual graphic images does help. It would therefore help if people discussing current events of wars etc on here could please refrain from posting them as immediately visible images, just put them as links to click onto for those who want. Or at least give plenty of warning of anything graphic further down. Edit: I meant this as a general thing, not specifically to you ES :) [Post edited 24 Oct 9:42]

| One for the board elders on 09:38 - Oct 24 with 1261 views | BloomBlue | Has it got any worse? I was around (admittedly very young) when we still had rationing after WWII. Wars were still happening around the world. We had a cold war, on the brink on a nuclear war. Yes maybe we had a world were more people were at the same level. Growing up we never had a telephone, never had a car, we grew up in council houses. Nobody (in my sphere) never went to Uni, get a job. I dont necessarily think things were harder or easier now, just different. Take cars, I think its wonderful cars are so much cheaper now, its common to see 2, 3, 4 cars in a household. Dad now has one, Mum one, the kids also have one, it allows people to travel. Technology allows people to say in touch, its wonderful. At school there was a lovely girl who had hearing difficulties. Couldn't hardly use a phone, not that they had one, she would have to walk to the phone box and use it. But her hearing got worse and she committed suicide because of it aged 20. I often think would it be better for her now, she could use Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram etc to still stay in contact - Technology can be great But the issue is all this technology gives us instant news from across the world, which exacerbates the bad news. When I was a lot younger there was an old boy in the pub and he always told this story.. two groups of boys from Stowmarket & Combs Ford had a fight, one of the boys was hit with a brick and died. He said that news only travelled as far as Ipswich / Bury St Eds, but now a kid gets killed with a brick in New York and a few hours later that is on the UK news. He would tell people that story in 80s, the Internet has made that even worse now. I genuinely dont think the world has got worse the global news is now instance to you, and invariably its only the bad news people talk about. You will never see a news item about itfc_bucks had a normal week, going to work, shopping, watched ITFC, went to the pub. That type of news, isnt news. I will admit I dont like the fact we dont learn from history, and the batsht far left anti Jewish hatred worries me daily. Plus as we get older I think we fell less able to influence what's happening, and that can make you/life feel pointless. When that happens personally I dont look at the news for a few days. Anyway dont get disheartened we all have those moments, it will go away. | | | |

| One for the board elders on 09:47 - Oct 24 with 1212 views | RonFearonsHair | I held my daughter's hand and chatted about whatever she wanted to as we walked to her dance class last night. Tomorrow I will take the two boys to the match and we will enjoy our time together regardless of the result, just as we did on Tuesday night. I rarely read the news or take any notice of it and have cut back on following social media to the extent that I wouldn't miss it if it disappeared. Ever since I once heard Mick McCarthy (of all people!) say he only worries about things he can directly control I've gradually tried to integrate more and more of that philosophy into my own life. | | | |
| One for the board elders on 09:51 - Oct 24 with 1174 views | Bluesky | I understand completely. The point is to find your own point/goal/focus whatever you want to call it. Royal family scandals echo repeatedly down the ages. But I visited Sandringham recently and was lifted by the sheer beauty and calm of the place.By things done properly to the highest standard. I was staggered to learn about the millions of new jobs, skills and income generated by King Charles' trust (Prince's Trust) and Andrew's crap just faded into the shadow. We cannot influence the depressing news so I gave up following it ages ago. Most of it is spin anyway so who knows the truth? Find something that YOU can grow or develop in yourself and take your reward there - Tai Chi - art - a new sport - a new craft, meet new people and and enjoy your personal growth and achievement therein. Live in the moment - don't dwell on what might happen - enjoy what IS happening to you now - a sunny day - a Red kite soaring - a comet, a brilliant -sunset whatever. Try meditation - twenty minutes of clearing all thoughts away. As for ITFC - this is a blip. It's not Marcus Evans, we aren't Sheffield Wednesday - we are an exciting work in progress. Remember that your time of maximum uncertainty is also your time of maximum potential. There is so much to enjoy. Choose what works for you. | | | |
| One for the board elders on 09:51 - Oct 24 with 1173 views | noggin | My advice, for what it’s worth. Deactivate Facebook, X, Instagram etc, Read or watch the news headlines once a day only, Go for a walk in nature whenever you can, even in the wind and rain and don’t engage with flag waving nationalists. Oh, and Town will win tomorrow. We are blues!! [Post edited 24 Oct 10:06]

| One for the board elders on 10:16 - Oct 24 with 1024 views | GlasgowBlue | We have so much to be thankful for in this country. Our politics may be dire but nowhere near as bad compared to so many other places around the world. We still have a functioning democracy. Town will win again. The change of the season is bringing ut the most wonderful colours. The best I've seen for years. Sorry to hear about your friend, my wife's best friend is going through something similar and it can get o top of you. But in general if you have health and happiness then that is what counts the most. In short. We are on this planet for such a very short time so make the most of it and enjoy every day. | |
