Joe Fairs, you were right..........well maybe! 10:04 - Oct 26 with 4525 viewscbower

On Blue Monday Joe Fairs said we might have to stumble on something in terms of line up. Maybe he's right. There's no doubt Cajuste is aesthetically more pleasing than Taylor, but yesterday Taylor offered so much more of what we need alongside Matusiwa than we have seen from Cajuste (and Nunez for that matter) all season.
With Szmodics and Akpom having to depart, might Nunez (actually I'd prefer Jack Clarke myself) get a run at No10? Similarly, I liked it that Walton didn't slow everything down as much as Palmer can do too.
Stumble, stumble, stumble and ye shall find the recipe? Maybe Mr Fairs nailed it. Early days but hope Jack Taylor for one gets a bit of a run to see how it works.

Or that Charlton and Boro have simply been better than West Brom this year.

As long as you don't ignore the pooh-poohing of your pooh-poohing.

Indeed, it's a court martial offence.

Not true about cajuste

One of my favs from last year.

He's shown in stages this season a different level of ability with the ball but it's been on and off through most games. And off the ball especially towards our own box he's left our defence to pick up runners and hasn't busted a gut.. now he may not be able to..

But imo as said earlier taylor showed everything we need from the pivot partner.

If cajuste was able to do that for 60 plus minutes excellent but I dont think we've seen that ability yet this season.

I think alot has to be said about the lack of openings Brom had from out own attacks. We shut that problem out imo well reduced it to almost nothing. That doesn't happen without the two cms getting back and helping.

Cajuste will be fine. But I do wonder if indeed it's best for nunez and cajuste to rotate in that 10 role.

If the injuries to Sammy and akpom means this happens and it goes well. We may start to see humphreys involved too so he can rotate with tayls perhaps.

Finally got to see a heat map for taylor

Mentioned yesterday it was the most luongo performance I've seen since luongo. And imo this backs it up

More mobile than Luongo imo (certainly compared to now, the poor bloke )

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

I was pleased we got Cajuste and thought he did well on the PL.

However, this season he seems far too casual and too many flicks etc which noone else reads.

Taylor did very well the other day but he's not the answer and I don't think he'll play anymore than a "midweek" role.

Not the answer? He did everything you want of a player in the double pivot.

Mobile, one touch, available.

Just because he doesn't have that price tag.

We need to play the best team, not the best players.

I have a feeling that Kieran may well not agree with you.

I'm not agreeing with Woolfy that Kieran plays politics and has favourites in an improper or unacceptable way, but part of his "trust the process" mentality is that when he's decided that a player is his favourite in a given position, he's slow to let the odd performance make him change course. So whilst fans might think "hooray, we've stumbled on something here!", Kieran might think, "yeah that worked ok, but once everyone's fit it's back to plan A, because that's the process we must trust".

I find it hard to identify a clear dichotomy as you have in your last sentence. I agree that we need to play the best team, and I agree that that doesn't always align with the best players. However, I'm not altogether certain about who the best players are right now, because reputations and price tags aren't matching up with performances. Hell, in McAteer's case, the price tag doesn't match up with anything as far as I can see.

Walton was often looking to get the ball forward quickly, but no Town player was looking for it, or ready. Instead, it was played in the much over coached fashion of “ patiently out from the back, boys, whatever the situation”. Far too limiting ….

Walton has always tried to get the ball forward fast , admittedly we haven’t seen it for a while as he hasn’t played much but think back to the end of the league 1 season and that super fast breakaways goal at Derby… Walton Broadhead on the right Burns On the left Chappers goal!

Watch from 1.55 where Walton is next to Mcgoldrick facing a Derby corner.
