Another scandal involving this Labour government

-1
Oh dear not you as well Rachel on 00:26 - Oct 30 with 2351 viewsJ2BLUE

Finally, some good news.

Let's hope this ends her reign of terror before the budget.

Time to put an adult in charge of the nation's finances.

Truly impaired.

Yes but he said the same about Rayner and Mandleson.

How the hell does the second most powerful person in the Labour Party make a mistake like this

This party is laughable.

They were the party that were going to change British Politics for ever - no more scandals

Even Kwasi Kwarteng said on Good Morning Britain this morning that this is a non-story. But I'm not surprised to see you, on here, clutching those straws again.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I posted that only because I had no idea what you were referring to so just providing context.

I didn't know there was such a license. More councils should do the same.

There is no scandal. This is just the right wing press desperately raking over anything and everything they can find to make a story out of. Funny how they weren't so scrutinous when the Tories were in power. Which is weird, given there was so much corruption and real scandal to report on.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I think she'll be ok. It seems she did actually ask an expert, in this situation an Estate Agent (yes I know a money grabbing EA), and they provided the wrong device.

Rayner didn't ask an expert (the person she asked actually told her she couldn't offer tax advice) with the aim of deliberately avoiding tax, so she had to go.

Meanwhile the world burns, war and famine are destroying nations and huge wealth is being transferred to and hoarded by the super rich. Aren't you outraged at the wrong things?

No evidence at all of any intention to deliberately avoid tax by Rayner. When will people stop peddling this lie?

Think you need to be a bit careful with how you've framed the Rayner situation there as you have no evidence that she intended to avoid paying the higher rate of inheritance tax. She was negligent in not seeking the right expert advice but you can't infer intent from that and would be on pretty shaky legal ground accusing her of deliberate tax avoidance.

Really fills one with confidence that these senior politicians have such a close grip of their personal finances and are using such excellent advisors.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

No, it's just not remotely a scandal is it? Woman doesn't realise she needs a bit of paperwork, realises and applies for a bit of a paperwork. It's a non-story and only desperate folk like yourself and the Tories think it's anything more than that.

Not like we’ve had any adults or suitably qualified chancellor’s in my lifetime.

Not read into it deeply, but from skimming this what I think I picked up...

1. Rented home out when moved into #11
1.1. so didn't leave her property empty at a time of housing shortage

2. Let via an Estate Agents, who are the property professionals

3. Not all local authorities have this type of licence

Two tier media attention;
Boris slipping his security to attend a KGB Bunga Bunga party, forgotten as he slimed seemlessly from foreign secretary to prime minister
Jenrick helped a party contributor avoid £x,000s
Hunt and his 7 properties
Boris putting son of KGB officer in HoL
Farage & the case of the mysterious house in Clacton

But the property professionals not doing their job and it's "the season of the witch" hunt

You don’t get it do you

She is the person in charge of the Country’s finances making decisions that will affect everyone on a daily basis and she doesn’t realise she needs a bit of paper.

Details of the licence are on the Council’s website.

She has proven she is not fit to run the Country’s finances if she doesn’t know basic regulations like this one.

Absolutely agree with you about the previous government

But when you come into government on the basis we are going to change politics for ever and this happens you are leaving yourselves wide open to any criticism.

You can question her competence if you like, that's fine. But it's not a "scandal" by any measure, is it? Stop being a massive div, mate.

A 1degree crack is enough for most of MSN to seize upon, this however, is a non-story due to use of Estate Agents

I mean WHAT IF the estate agents were Tory donors and wanted to assist them...?

I can understand people being annoyed at the Rayner one but this story feels like such a non-issue. It's not like any harm has really been done.

And I say this as someone who doesn't even like Reeves that much.

Careful, someone will be along in a minute to accuse you of that good old word 'Whataboutism' (TM).

(For the avoidance of doubt, I'm being sarcastic. The bias/selective myopia of papers like the Mail, whilst fully unexpected, is breathtaking at times).

I think she's pretty hopeless as chancellor but agree, this is a complete nothing story. She rented out her property and has a letting agent dealing with it on her behalf, they failed in their due diligence, she should perhaps have done a bit of her own but I imagine she's quite busy and expected a letting agent would know the rules. She hasn't gained anything financially as a result, it's a bit of paperwork ffs. People trying to draw an equivalence between stuff like this and Rishi's missus exploring the non-dom loophole when he was chancellor, Zahawi being investigated by HMRC before negotiating a settlement with them, Hunt's shady property dealings, giving hundreds of millions to their mates during COVID - the list of genuine scandals under the Tories that involved them lining their own pockets is endless. By comparison, this is literally nothing.
