I think in football, it can only ever be ‘for now’….but I read his comments as he’s staying for the foreseeable and Celtic isn’t a consideration

Good answers given by KMthough. Very respectful to Ipswich.

Unless I’ve missed it, unlike many other links, Phil hasn’t dismissed it yet either.

The impression I get is that if Celtic were able to meet Ipswich and Mckenna’s terms then he might strongly consider it, but I don’t think they can so he’s being respectful to both parties.

Which in fairness is only what any of us can say to any question like that.

None of us know what the future may hold or where it may lead, we only know where we are right now.

Whatever we might think of Scottish Football (and I live up here), Celtic are a massive club with a global fanbase. The chance to manage a club if that magnitude won't come along often in a manager's career - so if they do come calling I wouldn't be surprised if KM is interested.

At the end of the day, if we don't start to make a move into the play-off spots who knows what the ownership will do - KM could be out on his arse before Xmas!

All the talk of Celtic meeting KM's release clause - is there anything to stop KM simply resigning from Town?

 There’s about £20m reasons he won’t resign.

I guess you don’t understand how these sort of employment contracts work. The contract will allow three ways to fulfil it - work the term of the contract, go on gardening leave for the term of the contract or buy yourself out of the contract.

A move to another club therefore involves waiting (in Kieran’s case well over 2 years) or paying a shedload of money to Town.

For what it’s worth, Kieran’s comment that he’s ’mid-project’ at Town suggests he’s not planning on going anywhere soon.

Brendan Rodgers resigned from Celtic (if you believe the club's announcement) - are you telling me he paid Celtic the remainder of his contract so he could depart? Can't see that being the case.

I live in lovely Scotland too (although a long way from Glasgow) and what I have been reading into the build up to Brendan Rodgers departure is that the Celtic board can't find the funds to make a decent set of offers to new players so any chance of worthwhile progress in the Champions League is limited (ironically at the very time that the Premiership becomes more competitive with the Hearts and Hibs revival as well as St Mirren getting a bit of their mojo back and Dundee United looking lively at times) so a replacement manager is going to feel hobbled by that. Massive fanbase that it is I still cannot see McKenna going into a Marcus Evans style ownership scenario and the possibility of a large section of supporters spurning his affinity and turning on him if success does not happen this season.

without really knowing the ins and outs of it - Brendan Rodgers offered his resignation and it was accepted by the board - so i assume in these cases its a mutal thing so basically he has waived any compensation he would be due if he was sacked, and likewise the club will have waived any compensation they would be owed if he were to be poached - so i would assume he is free to manage whom ever he pleases.

Whereas if McKenna offered his resignation, it would no way be accepted. Meaning either Celtic or McKenna buy him out of his contract. Or as mentioned above he would resign and not be able to take over another club until he pays his contract off or that contract period ends.

The exact details are unlikely ever to be public, but most likely some form of gardening leave arrangements will be in place, pending negotiations of a mutual settlement. Until the end of the gardening leave or an agreed settlement, he’ll not be taking another management job elsewhere.

Have you ever wondered why many managers go so long without taking another job? Sometimes it might be because no one wants them, other times it will be due to gardening leave. Those that move to another position fast are usually the ones sacked, and receiving contract termination compensation.

This is the way of employment contracts.

Might be sooner than you think:

I know it's only the Metro and Ally McCoist but I suppose waiting in the wings for West Ham to fire Nuno is a possibility.
