Showing why I was gutted we loaned him out for the entire season.

Do we have a recall option in Jan? He's looking great against Portugal, they're struggling to deal with him.

No. One of the most bizarre decisions the club made.

No recall, which is part of the reason why I think it was such an odd decision.

Got to be financial. You'd assume hed have had a pretty high wage. Go on loan without recall could possibly have enabled us to get more % of his wages paid esp with km wanting mcateer

Really? I still don’t get the furrow around McKenna sending him out on loan. He hardly set the world alight in those first few games - albeit coming back from a long term injury - and we ended up signing one of the biggest prospects in Europe beating off the likes of Porto, Club Brugge and PSV to his signature.

Think it was perfectly reasonable for him to go out on loan and hopefully perform well enough that he either comes back and does have some role with us, or manage to sell him for similar to what we paid.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

....at least from my point of view, is the lack of recall option in January.

I think KM specifically cited "fitness" as an issue and said that he needed games, the whole season seems a bit extreme.

Couple that with the fact that his "replacement" cost a fortune and hasn't exactly blown us away (yet).......then I can see the frustration.

You can say "didn't set the world alight" but it was obvious to me why we bought him and that he was a very capable player. Out on loan to get fit and 3 months into the season here he is tearing Portugal a new one.

Not suggesting he has the same ceiling as Walle, but it's not an either/or.

Don't think its about ogbene himself going out on loan but more we loaned him out to bring in a 12 mill winger who ogbene gets chosen ahead of for Ireland.

In preseason he showed what he brings. Obviously he didn’t have his full pace or sharpness, but it was easy to see what was to come.

If he was sent out to get fitness/ sharpness, then why no recall?

And I don’t see it was a choice between him and Walle Egeli.

This.

I feel sorry for McAteer … but ultimately a very strange decision to spend so much on him, when we had a better option.

Why no recall? To give him a whole season of 40+ games. Let’s face it, he wasn’t going to get a game with Egeli and McAteer here and Burns returning from injury. Why on earth would we want a recall in there?

Gives him and Shef U the piece of mind that he gets a full season to get back to his best and Town must’ve been pretty confident that Egeli and McAteer could become good options with Burns returning.

My guess is Ogbene is sold next summer regardless of what division we’re in.

Yes it's the signing of Macteer rather than the Walle deal that seems a little strange.

I believe we paid £8m for Ogbene and £12m for McAteer? I get that McAteer is 5 years younger, bit he has got a lot to do to look like an upgrade. Not the player's fault how much we paid of course, but it just doesn't make much sense at this stage.

Why wouldn't he get a game ahead of McAteer? He gets a game ahead of McAteer every single Ireland game.

I'll back and Support Mcateer to progress and improve and become a player for us. But right now it is really odd. We would have £12 million still in our pocket. Leicester may have had to sell Fatawu or in trouble and we would quite arguably have a better option for the here and now in Ogbene.

It is what it is now and Ogbene has had a slow start with Sheffield United. But I'll never really understand that one.

Nutkin says it all. I just don’t get your logic at all.

I’m positive about MacAteer, and expect to see him develop under KmK, but Ogbene for me offers more, and brings a physicality we’re often lacking there.

It's the one bit of business I really can't get past this season.

Absolutely no fault of McAteer who cannot control how much a club spends on him and who they send out on loan in lieu of him having a place in the squad, and the lad has some quite unfair pressure on him as result of it all. For this reason alone, I'd love to see McAteer really start to try and hold down some sort of place and role in the team/squad.

But, from a Town fan perspective, it's a headscratcher for sure. 12 million that probably could have been used more effectively elsewhere and three months into the season, a bloke we paid nearly 10 mil for and sent on loan is tearing Portugal a new one.

We're still making assessments way too early though. What has McAteer had so far? The equivalent of maybe five full games? It takes time to bed into a new system.

Why would you post an accusation like that?

Yes I was gutted, and if you search my previous comments, I always said people underestimated him. I saw enough in him for the ROI, and just before he got injured, to see his potential.

Just because you don’t rate him, don’t be presumptuous and try to project that onto what I think.
