| Have we done any Ashes talk? on 01:30 - Nov 17 by IPS_wich | Just as a point of order - Ashes tests haven't played at the WACA since 2017 - they are at the new(ish) Perth Stadium. Metallica played at the stadium 12-13 days ago so they only put the drop in wicket down last week and it wasn't ready for any practice matches. It will play like most Australian wickets now, they've tried to replicate the freak hardness of the WACA wicket but haven't been able to. Probably not a bad thing - I've got tickets for Day 3 (Sunday) and I'd rather not watch England being skittled or the Aussies smashing us around the ground like so many WACA test matches in the past. |
Another soulless bowl. Looks a lot bigger than the WACA.

It is a lot bigger than the WACA and is actually a fantastic stadium in one of the most beautiful settings you could imagine. In 2018 it won the Prix Versailles award for the most beautiful sporting venue in the world (Prix Versailles being an offshoot of UNESCO). Can't think of many better stadiums I've ever set foot in around the world and I'm lucky enough to live 6 stops away on the train line.

Looks impressive. Very nice setting as you say. Of course it's no Portman Road, but they did their best.

Cor, very jealous. Especially at this time of year!

Give me Portman Rd every day of the week - although on balance I'd probably take the surrounding area of Perth Stadium over that of Portman Rd.

The other easy way to remember it is that Nighthawks "do look a bit like Simon and Garfunkel, don't they?"

Is that the first day/night test involving England? Then the Boxing Day Test actually starts just before midnight on Christmas Day for us.

The Adelaide test in 2021 was also day/night - it's become Adelaide's thing since about 2019 with most of the summer tests at Adelaide Oval a day/night game. It's actually perfect for the time difference back to the UK. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Have we done any Ashes talk? on 23:00 - Nov 20 with 600 views | The_Romford_Blue | Looking forward to tonight. Think it’s the best chance we’ve had in an away ashes for a long time. Just a word for TLA - enjoyed messaging him on here through the night of an Away ashes tour (2007 series it will have been) when I had bad insomnia for a year or so. He loved his cricket and we would then message back and forth when England had an away series on in the early hours. Great bloke. Sadly missed. [Post edited 20 Nov 23:01]

I'm afraid so Ryorry, a few years ago I think. I didn't know him, but he lived not far from me in Yarmouth, I was due to meet up with him for a beer but unfortunately he passed away suddenly, I found out afterwards.
