| My Good Lady has been drinking boiled water 11:52 - Nov 15 with 5813 views | Benters | For a while now and I’ve started doing it,I do drink tea and ginger and lemon tea,but I do go for cooling down boiled water as well now. Apparently if you like your stools smooth it’s the way to go.As well as other health benefits. [Post edited 15 Nov 11:54]

You drink it hot,you have to let it cool down a bit otherwise it will burn ones throat.

It's clearly about whether you are only replacing hot drinks with this (or even drinking it hot which your OP clearly states isn't the case). If, on average, people drink a litre of cold water (or squash etc and I assume you would boil and cool the water for that too) every day then that's 69.5M litres of water being boiled unnecessarily every day. (In fact, as explained, it even makes it less healthy for you.) That's across the UK an extra 4.17 million kWh of electricity used every day. And that's if nobody overfills their kettle and boils more than they actually drink. Of course, you could extrapolate that to say we could all reduce our carbon footprint by never drinking hot drinks. You could do the same and apply it to only eating cold raw food. But that would be simply being as facetious as those responding negatively to this currently are being.

Excuse the facetiousness, but what was the carbon cost of you posting that on the internet?

I am quite sure you will boil a full kettle, pour a mug and put in your fridge to cool, leave the full kettle to cool as well, refill it and rinse and repeat all day instead of only boiling what you are going to drink. It is up to individuals whether they buy into saving energy and you clearly don't.

It wasn't an entirely serious post but good to see the usual suspects jumping on it and enjoying themselves over two more pages. I've now caused all the extra energy to be used in the barrage of replies. Only cold water for me today to offset that. SB

Boil away. It’s cold, miserable and damp here today. 2.6 degrees of warmth wouldn’t go amiss! Besides, by buying that kettle, you provided work for all those workers that made it and tax to fund public services (VAT etc). You also kept electricity workers in a job along with this that put the infrastructure in. Without you they’d be facing the misery of unemployment. The nation should thank you for your contribution to the economy and at the very least an MBE and a chance to pinch a sheet of King Charles’ bog paper. Mrs C went to a Buck House garden party years ago and we’ve a framed sheet of Liz’s somewhere - unused. [Post edited 16 Nov 10:09]

The herd suddenly confused and scattering when called out by one of their own. The bantz defence being deployed but not by the side you would expect. Loads to enjoy without even caring about the merits or otherwise of boiling and cooling water. Thanks all.
