Oxford second goal - what were we trying to do?! 15:50 - Nov 29 with 1728 viewsBellevue_Blue

I just cant quite get over Taylor's decision to hit a completely aimless long ball to Nunez/ Egeli, two smaller players whilst they have 8 players behind the ball.

He's been great recently but that decision is a huge reason they scored the goal and it's entirely unnecessary.

He’s done that loads of times, he also given the ball away a lot the last few games he’s played and hasn’t had a decent strike at goal for about 2 years now.

Decent enough player at this level but the fact he’s starting for us again shines a bit of a light on the summer really.

He's another one to add to the list over the years of players people pretend are better than they actually are because they've gone off the other guy in that position.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

I think so, got nothing against Jack Taylor as a squad player, that’s all he was last time we went up but starting now is a bit of a concern of where we are at and the cash spent since his arrival over two years ago.

I'd like to see us pick a back 4 and stick with it from here, injuries and suspensions aside. I'm happy to see us swap the front 4 around, with the subs to impact and all that, keep the opposition on their toes. Just seems unnecessary and to our detriment to prevent the relationships and shapes at the back from being cemented.

Davis, Greaves, O'Shea, Furlong.

Just pick them as the base each week. Ideally pick a regular partner for Matusiwa too.

Get the defensive spine of the team as settled and reliable as possible, and build from that.

Nailed it again Dubbers, you do the football for me and I'll take care of politics for you!

Hate to mention individual players, especially ones I like a lot, but not sure what Walton was doing. Seemed to lose his positioning. Also, in the last two games players have tried to beat him from a long way out which makes me think his positioning is being picked up in the pre game analysis by the opposition.

Truly impaired.

With hindsight knocking in to Akpom would have been better but Egeli is not small if he wins that ball he might put Nunez in. Nothing wrong with the pass at all. What is wrong is that he is supposed to be covering their striker while Davis is out of position and he gives him a head start.

Funny how trends seem to happen in football

This weekend another batch of players trying to lob keepers from distance to go with last week's. Are we going to go back to when keepers were keepers.

a niche perspective

The 8 players behind the ball point is a bit weird - Egeli and Nunez are both against a single defender each. Using your men behind the ball argument we'd never ever play a forward pass.

The plan was clearly to aim for Egeli who would have had a 1-1 duel with his man at the back of the area, and it is a ball that you see lots of teams try every game.

The issue is that the ball from Taylor was poor, and then to compound it our defensive shape was all over the place, so one pass completely unlocked us.

Kieran's point in the presser was that the players were trying to force things too early, to paraphrase. We were throwing too many men forward too early, not being patient enough, hence getting caught in a similar manner to the Middlesbrough game, after which he spoke a few times about not having to win the game in the first half, about sticking to the plan etc.

Hit the diag ti Egeli, probably trying to drop it in behind the full back, just got it wrong, that happens.

Taylor’s reaction after that more of an issue, didn’t track the man in the Leif Davis space until it was too late.

Swift off for a split second you’re punished.
