I would certainly miss their name.
When I can't sleep, I go through an alphabetical list of (preferably obscure) Scottish football teams.

As a general rule, Scottish football fans detest the English football teams and National side, so it's a no from me.

I really hope you are successful in saving them. As a kid I had those cardboard league table things with tabs for each English and Scottish team and Hamilton Academically fascinated me because if the name so I always followed their results.

Absolutely no need for that.

Didn’t Jimmy Greaves kind of adopt them as his team during the saint and greavsie days ?

I don’t think they’re alone! And we could always rise above that level irrespective of what some of their fans may think.

Just a thought.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Do you think the world is a better place for that comment?

The fact is that, apart from the bigger Premier League clubs and Rangers and Celtic in Scotland, the fans of most football teams are in much the same boat, with trophies unlikely and relegation at some stage never to be ruled out.

Indeed, to be so dismissive of a club with more history than ours, and whose demise would rock the community, is not really a good look.

As it is, I've donated £20 to them.

Maybe Phil could sticky this as an indication of solidarity.

I do wonder what the origins of the name are.

All traditional football clubs are worth saving.

If our owners decide they’re taking their money elsewhere and the club falls under financial threat, will you be turning down a donation from a Hamilton supporter? Thought not.

Maybe named after a school (?Hamilton Academy?), given many schools in Scotland are .**** Academy.

My dad went to Ardrossan Academy. The rugby team named after them was also known as the Accies.

EDIT: I was right. This from Wikipedia.

They were established in 1874 from the school football team at Hamilton Academy and remain the only professional club in British football to have originated from a school team.

You mean Scottish schools have been academies for over a century. Or are you trolling me with them academising in the same way as English schools did?

My understanding is that Academies in Scotland were equivalent to grammar schools in England, and had nothing to do with the much more recent developments in England.

EDIT: I came across this on webpage posing the question. These days I think most such schools (unless private) are comprehensive but they will have maintained "Academy" in their name.

"It's historical. A lot of them used to be state funded selective schools. A bit like English grammar schools."

Bollix. They might not like the national side and its fans ( I don't ) but I've been watching Scottish football for years and have had nothing but a great time with good people wherever I've been.

Until a bit of a painful breakup in the summer, I spent a lot of time in Hamilton with my ex, including many evenings in the Academical Vaults.

Whilst the negative feelings towards her are pretty ripe, the positive memories of the town, the people and the club outweigh that tenfold. Donated.

I'm sure Old Etonians, FA Cup winners in 1882, would have given the Accies a right royal stuffing.
