Kieran’s properly p*ssed with the fanbase 14:57 - Dec 5 with 5858 viewsChris_ITFC

The wry smile on his face after airing this said it all.

Presser by PhilTWTD 5 Dec 14:51
Can't let this become a narrative. Players read stuff, there are players who have made three, four five appearances. If you're an ITFC player, need to get behind them. If there's a narrative other than that, that's detrimental to the players. We'll pick the right team for the next six games in December and team will pick up good results.

Edit - The wry smile:

Think the fan base have a right to be p!ssed off to be honest. It’s been poor for19 months now. Spent an absolute fortune on a bunch of players who honestly don’t look like they have played the game before. All we hear is gel gel gel. Other teams sign new players they seem to manage, this is bollox for the most part. Needs to earn the big bucks they all get now.

19 months? I’ll never get the people who criticise the Prem season.

Donkeys in the Championship, too long in League 1, and I got to see us beat Spurs and Chelsea, go toe-to-toe with Liverpool and United at Portman Road.

I couldn’t give a sh*t where we finished in the league. We were punching massively to even be there.

I believe our fan base is dreadful. One of the worst. I’ve thought this for a while now. It’s easy to cheer when things are going well. Last minute goals etc, but support is meant to be more than that. A lot more. You learn what people are like as individuals when things don’t go so well. That goes for the collective too.

Heckling, booing getting on your own players backs, mocking them - who on earth in their right mind would want to play for this club bar those who want the money? If I was a Clarke, Philogene, the keepers, Hirst, I’d be badgering my agent to get me a move ASAP.

It’s actually far more toxic that at any time I can ever remember it, including the long suffering Duncanites or those who endured the Evans dross. It always quiet, but patient. Not now. It’s a society thing? I don’t buy that.

It’s in the nature of a large number that follow this club home and away. My money, I’ll do what I like? Don’t buy that either. Not when kids are there listening to foul mouthed torrents of abuse or adults who neither want or need to hear it. Who are these witless bed-defecators who think they have the right to do it anyway? What gives them the right to be so entitled? If they don’t like it, p£ss off and play dominoes or something.

So the season isn’t going as well as we all hoped. So what? How does dishing up the abuse help the players and the team? When the players throw the towel in as they did under Cook and just after he left, fine.

If or more likely when McKenna jumps ship this season or at the end of it, don’t be surprised. The bedwetters and misery merchants who so enjoy wading in will all have played their part.

If you really think Ipswich are one of the worst fanbases, you need to get out more, my friend.

I'd recommend trips to Stamford Bridge, Elland Road and Molineux as good places to start.

Reminds me of Mic Mac and his 'outside the tent p*ssing in' comment. Quite right too.

The club - staff, players fans, everyone, need to be united. We can not like the results, but we need to be behind the players and manager.

I’ve been to plenty of places thank you very much. I’ve even been in with home crowds and seen what they’re like, though not for a few years. That includes the clubs you name and many more, including your club when they didn’t have much of a team. And I didn’t hear them ridiculing individuals, with the odd exception. They supported the team or went quiet if it wasn’t going well.

I was at Bristol city when they were throwing stones at the Boardroom windows, but they supported their players and team that week and the following week in the cup. plenty of our lot don’t any more.

At Torquay, a couple of dozen used to abuse the whole team as they ran out. But then cheered them on when the game started. Devonians I suppose.

Sunderland in League one a few years ago? They were awful but I was in the away end with a mate and they were fine with the team. And no, there weren’t promoted that year. Proper support.

There’s very little I’ve not seen. It’s just with other clubs, they might boo the team off if they’ve played badly, but they don’t target and abuse the individuals to the level our finest do..

Having spent a bit of time at various other clubs around our Isles I think you’re being a bit harsh on us (I’ve always gone to watch my local teams even if I don’t particularly care how they do).

This isn’t even close to being toxic. In my time here in South Wales I can think of at least three or four periods of worse toxicity down at the Swans. The players/coach/owners get the dogs abuse from the whole of the vocal part of the ground, not just some isolated voices. They’re stupidly up when they’re up though, but really down when they’re down. It’s all that Celtic passion, or drink/drugs, not sure lol.

Not that anyone being a negative Nelly is helping and I’m not defending our fans who have less emotional intelligence than my kids when they were toddlers.

Ok, fair enough if that's your experience, but I still disagree, I think Ipswich are one of the least toxic fanbases around

My take on it is that football mirrors society and society as a whole is far more toxic and entitled than 10, even 5 years ago. And that of course infiltrates a football ground

So maybe you're not comparing apples with apples if comparing ITFC of 2025 to the likes of Leicester in the 2000s. I wouldn't know what Ipswich were like pre 2019ish, but I can say with surety that Town are a HELL of a lot less toxic than Leicester and that's before you start talking about the West Hams, Celtics, Newcastles, Leeds s of the football world

I don't think you're still in touch on this point honestly, agreeing with BBI. Only this week Frank found himself calling out the booing of goalkeeper Vicario by Spurs fans. A lot of "supporters" are awful in various grounds across the country. Some forums are so toxic that you need a login to view them. Was it not like this five or twenty years ago? I can't remember.

I think you're bang on in calling out how bad we've been, however. Because whether it's pretty normal or not, we've been bad. Quiet or silent in positive chanting at home since Norwich, loud in the frustrations. Letting some players know we don't back them before they come on, when they come off, while they're playing. Trying to disrupt McKenna's tactics playing out from the back, then big groans when the coerced long ball goes wayward.

And perhaps what does make us more of an outlier, how quickly we've reached this point after the generational elation of 2022-24. Very few are digging in to not lose the spirit of that time. Generational progress taking place off the pitch, huge investment on it, well spent or badly spent. We know the club is striving to give the best account of itself, ambitious beyond the entitlement displayed by the "support" even, yet many fans aren't prepared to even faintly imitate the courage we rightly demand in players and staff. It's a real shame, much as teams can succeed in spite of their "supporters" (I don't write the above to pretend it's the primary reason for our struggles).

I went to all but one of our away games last season and I had a great time at all of them.

There were some games when weren't in it, but in many we played pretty well, and the wins at Spurs, Wolves and Brentford were particular highlights.

The away fans were also brilliant throughout the season.

It was our home form which was probably the greater disappointment.

Dreadful behaviour?

With negative football played at walking speed, a failure to convert chances and giving away kamikaze goals every week with the most expensive squad in the entire EFL its not hard to see why a gradually growing number of fans both online and in attendance are beginning to feel disgruntled.

For those apologists with blue-tinted glasses and happy clappers just ask any neutral to watch one of our matches and see what they say about the quality of our football at present. Or players who are supposedly singled out like McAteer and Hirst.

If McK is so thin-skinned then good luck with him going to another PL club or Celtic where vulgarities are hurled by large sections of the crowd throughout the match and at FT (West Ham, Wolves, Villa even his darling ManUre) or walk out when the club is losing even at HT (Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal etc.)

We have the most placid and easily satisfied fanbase by a country mile. Don't believe? Drop by King Power or St Mary's on matchday and see for yourself. Better still when they lose. Even Le Bris who now looks like a genius was called fking shit and useless last season by Sunderland fans when results weren't going their way

So much of what you say comes across as being in denial - and that is what I see in so many comments by several people. Some of our fans are nowhere near as placid as you’d like to believe. I’ve first hand experience at our games, as have others from some of the comments. It can be seen from some on here too.

Yes, other clubs are worse, but many are far better.

However, and this so so apparent on so many levels, whenever there is any slight suggestion that some of our fans are part of the problem, there are many who get very defensive.
