Firstly what a name that is Dibnah! He was a complete legend and his love of steam engines is something we share.

My Great Grandfather drove a steam traction engine around Debenham and Dedham and got arrested for being drunk in a pub in Dedham for telling the local Bobby to naf off.

But getting back to Fred he was a Great Briton 🇬🇧👍

Even in his day during the 1970’s TV programmes he seemed from another time - in other words straight out of the late victorian era. Not sure you’ll see his like again.

I agree with everything you said about Fred.

I'm just wondering what prompted you to post this, out of the blue.

Dead Fribnah.
I think he was a bit of a tvvat actually. Many of his exploits were of course spectacular, but he seemed to me to be a big-headed loud mouth.

There are people up here that aren’t fans, not sure if it was ever proven but lots of rumours he was very poor in his treatment of certain people including his wife.

He’s a bit before my time, so it’s more a name and face I recognise than anything else.

He was a great Briton, not Britain.

When describing a person / people, it is Briton.

It was the ladders he used and the odd plank here and there that got me.
