That’s because we are largely terrible.
I am a huge McKenna fan and generally positive but this season the sum of our collective parts is far too low.
In a normal championship, we would be around 14th.
Individually we have some good players but our team, tactics and overall style of play is no where near good enough. It’s a bit like the England test team I feel the team are unwilling to recognise the weaknesses under the excuse it will all click at some point.

I disagree that we are largely awful. Someone used the wor ‘average’ in the chat room and I think that’s what we have been too often so far this season. We played some lovely stuff at this today and there were some fine margins at didn’t fall our way.
I do agree that we are to oftenworse that the sum of our parts - but I can’t see that we need radical overhaul. We’re third in the league as it stands! |  |

I thought the second half was a good performance. They scored a goal from a ball that broke very kindly and the state of the game changes for a while, but I never felt like we were anything approaching hanging on.

i doubt it was the prediction made by soton, leicester, brum or boro fans either, but they all had a similar experience. however, like 3 of the 4 we got the job done
we shouldn't feel entitled to beat any team in this league, you have to fight for it (which we did). good battling 3 points in my book | |

That's the problem with the current team. We are so brittle that any little bump on thd road and we fall apart too easily. Today was a perfect example. We are clearly the better team ( not a huge boast ) and are leading by two goals. Then they get a fortunate goal and we are lmmediately under pressure. It's all very uncontrolled and you can never be confident that games can be seen out. Likewise when we go behind we dont seem to have the ability to force our way back into the game. I think the fact we are third is more a reflection on the rest of the Championship rather than a cohesive promotion chasing team. | | | |

I was at the game today. We were not ‘largely terrible’
There is no such thing as a ‘normal Championship’. There is just the Championship - a division in which we’ve spent only 1.5 seasons in the last 5.5. And prior to that we stank the division out for all but two or three of the years during Evans’ time.
A team forming is not an excuse. It’s how it is. We don’t have some good players. We have a lot of good players. I haven’t seen too many on opposition teams with better than what we have. Right, how I saw it today without reading too much dismals stuff on hear or Phil’s report.
We started too slowly again. Partly because Wednesday threw everything in early pressing wise. We committed suicide letting a one on one and for much of the first half did not get a hold of the game.
I am Cajuste’s biggest critic. He was invisible until he was instrumental in that move leading to Philogene’s bicycle kick. Good set piece from Kipre followed. Man of the Match. Also the second.
Second half we played much better. Plenty of front foot and a really good goal. Should have killed it with a third, but or finishing is so wasteful. The Wednesday goal? Wrong end so didn’t see it but for some reason we were falling away.
Substitutions? Well we got a third. I like J Clarke. His control and awareness is great. His goal was off an error. Defender switched off, he didn’t.
Overall, a mixed bag but a good three points. Don’t disrespect the Wednesday players. They are professionals playing for their careers. They gave their all and left it all out there, loathsome though he is, in Lord of the Rings Bannan they had one of the best players on the field.
The Ref? Terrible. Like weak refs do he favoured the away side to show he was fair which meant they got away with some poor challenges.
So where are we short? I agree with Mick Mills. We could do with something better in midfield and obviously a striker, esp now Hirst is out. But to achieve that, the right players have to be available and willing to play here and some squad players will have to go. |  | | |

Yup, I was there and we were not under constant pressure for the final 12 minutes. We managed the final phase of the game well. They had a spell of about 5 mins, 20 minutes before the whistle, and I won’t say it was a nervous few minutes, but you’re overstating how much pressure they had. | | | |

Neither team looked likely to score in that spell.
Momentum swung their way briefly after a goal out of nowhere but quality prevailed.
I'm more concerned by the poor first half than 10 minutes of pressure in which they created very little. |  | | |
