January looking an interesting month for the top three 00:20 - Jan 3 with 2189 viewsunstableblue

Was listening to the Second Tier boys - they stated that after an early excellent goal from Cov at Charlton they expected they’d go and get their dip in form out of the way, but it then became ‘their worse performance of the season’

Made me think who have they got coming up in January:

4th Brum (a) - “Birmingham city fans see the crucial "derby" opportunity to boost team morale and turn around poor form”
17th Leicester (h)
20th Millwall (h)
26th Norwich (a)
31st QPR (a)

They’re all challenging in a way.

We have:

4th Pompey (a)
17th Blackburn (h)
20th Bristol (h)
24th Sheff U (a)
31st Preston (h)

2 tough games, 3 winnable.

As for Boro

4th Saints (h)
16th West Brom (a)
21st Stoke (a)
24th Preston (h)
31st Norwich (h)

Not too taxing.

Will Norwich do us a favour in January? Does feel like a month to get 3+ points
closer to Cov and 3+ points clear of Boro?

(Cue Town loss at Fratton Park to depleted Pompey)

From your description of Boro's fixtures, my guess is Bristol and Sheff Utd are judged to be our tough two. Preston are 6th though and had our number earlier in the season, while Bristol edge the away game in chances created if not result. I see Bristol, Preston, Saints and Stoke all in a similar light myself, and West Brom have only lost 2 of their 12 home games. Really not sure which of those three sets I'd favour if allowed to pick, though not Coventry's because of the away weighting.

Going to be cheering on Norwich twice in a month. I feel nauseous.

I think Nodge v Cov is a live sky game on a Mon night.

There are no easy games, every side will be battling hard for there own reasons, looking at our games

Portsmouth
Blackburn

Both are at the wrong end of the table and will be desperate for points now to avoid a nervy relegation battle come March onwards

Brizzo city
Sheff Utd
Preston

The above will be desperate for points to help their push for the top 6

A draw would be nice. No good for either of them

We’ve struggled against Blackburn twice this season ,Blunts have found form ,Bristol are Bristol and Preston really won’t be easy

That said I’d rather have our fixtures than Cov’s

None of those games are easy for any team.

Look at Boro's games, probably not Norwich, but I would argue all the other teams are still looking at a playoff place none are really that far from top 6 given the number of games still to play, even WBA, 9 points from 6th isn't massive

Given up trying to predict ahead of next game as anything can and often does happen in this league.

Expect the unexpected.

I am reading today Pompey have about 10 players out, are in poor form yet if we do beat them it won't be comfortable. Equally I can see Coventry turning it on at Brum now their players are likely over illness and that one getting very ugly also Boro bouncing back and beating Saints.

Equally just as likely that top 3 all fail to win and Hull and Watford steam up the table.

I'd back us to beat anyone at home, and increasingly our form backs that up.

Remains to be seen if we've cracked it away from home, with some inconsistency still evident on the road.

23 points from the last 30 at Portman Road

15 from the last 30 away - still a decent return despite some up and down performances.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

Yeh, I’d be interested to see Watford & Hull’s upcoming fixtures, seeing as they’re the form teams in the league atm with us, and just a squeak behind us

Too keep a good grip on second and hopefully build a bit of a gap we want to be winning 2/3 of the remaining games.
Don’t care which those are. However it would be great if we can keep momentum with the next 2. That would build such confidence in the team going into a slightly stickier patch of Bristol, Sheff and Preston.

Not sure when playing Southampton or WBA away became easy games.

I said last week January is huge and on paper a great opportunity but as we saw against Oxford things don't work out that easily. I suspect similar again tomorrow.

I always had my doubts about you

We have to be keeping an eye on the teams below 3rd just as much as the top 3. Watford and Hull only 3 points behind and in Watfords case in just as good form as Ipswich.

Would be a sickener to overhaul Cov with them dripping off a cliff only to finish 3rd to Watford and Hull. Not saying I expect that to happen but it's hardly a 3 horse race just yet.

WBA at the moment are in a bit of a mess. There are no easy games, but they’re one of the easier right now. Until we go there and do an Oxford away performance or they appoint a new manager and get a bounce, of course!

(Just checked fixtures and they’re last but one for us. I think I’d rather be playing them now, but then who knows what clubs/table will be like with only 2 games left).
