I sometimes wonder how well a Wimbledon crazy gang direct football style team would do in the modern game

Luton played that way and got relegated.

I saw enough of that with McCarthy and Duncan. Also sawWimbledon and even Cambridge do it. It was unwatchable. It’s no wonder the crowds drifted away during Mick’s time. Credit where it’s due, in ya face up and at em got us away from the bottom when he arrived. A near miracle. It also got not the best players to over achieve and reach the play offs, but for me as away of playing? No thanks.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a style I like or would want to watch

Just sitting pondering

Wrexham are pretty hoofy and seem to be going alright?

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Was watching the second half of their match against Blackburn in Isaacs Thursday before heading up to PR and my son said the same thing. No nonsense hoof out of defence a fair amount, but they can play some decent stuff when needed too.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

It was pretty direct under Royle. Some quite exciting games, though it wasn't football for the purists, for sure, but it was fun for the most part. I'm not sure how direct it was under Duncan; whatever it was, it certainly was not effective.

He actually got quite a decent win ratio, but people did not like watching the style.

You'll also need a crap 80's pitch too, but the Prem won't allow that...

They've brought in some better technical players and do have good variety upfront, that would make some sense

If he'd actually played players in their proper roles it might have come across like he had an actual plan most games.and that results came as a result of those plans and not inspite of them.

It was some of the most attacking, exciting football I’ve ever seen at Portman Road (6-4!), at least for the first 2-3 seasons — I think you’re misremembering that.

I'm not suggesting by any stretch of the imagination that we should play like this but i do think it might be a good idea to mix it up sometimes , when Hirst is on the pitch go long to him so as to keep the opposition guessing . Maybe if its goalless after say 60 minutes .

I don't think it works doing it as your go to plan these days as if you commit any decent number of men forward, which you need for it to be effective, it gives the opposition a great counter attacking chance every tine they turn the ball over.

However there's still a time and place for it in certain situations and mixing it up and honestly I think Ipswich have integrated the long balls nicely into the attacking arsenal. Hardly a direct side but some of the balls can be quite direct.
