Was watching the second half of their match against Blackburn in Isaacs Thursday before heading up to PR and my son said the same thing. No nonsense hoof out of defence a fair amount, but they can play some decent stuff when needed too. |  |

It was pretty direct under Royle. Some quite exciting games, though it wasn't football for the purists, for sure, but it was fun for the most part. I'm not sure how direct it was under Duncan; whatever it was, it certainly was not effective. |  | | |

I don't think it works doing it as your go to plan these days as if you commit any decent number of men forward, which you need for it to be effective, it gives the opposition a great counter attacking chance every tine they turn the ball over.
However there's still a time and place for it in certain situations and mixing it up and honestly I think Ipswich have integrated the long balls nicely into the attacking arsenal. Hardly a direct side but some of the balls can be quite direct. |  | | |
