Everyone knows you don't think about transfers for the first half of the window. After that things ramp up slowly. I imagine this week the scouts are starting to watch videos of academy matches featuring PL sides, and maybe the odd Eredivisie game. It'll be full steam ahead. Two, maybe even three matches each. Hopefully the video tapes hold up. If they bung up the machines then things get tricky. Next week they'll start talking with Ashton and McKenna about what positions the club want filling. Can't rush these things
| Distincly Quiet on the transfer front on 15:43 - Jan 15 with 1115 views | Guthrum | I'm not sure we need to panic buy, even at the end of the window. It's not like we're failing to score a good number of goals and we pretty much win as often as not (much more so in recent months). Some cover for Matusiwa might be useful. It may be good to bring in another striking option, especially if we sometimes lose Hirst to injury. If we can improve one or two positions without upsetting the cohesion of the team, I'm sure we'd look at it. Beyond that, there are really no alarms. | |

I think with Azon and Akbom not exactly setting the world on fire striking-wise, and Hurst currently looking (when not injured) like a shadow of 2 years ago, then striking options would be a definite topic of conversation at some point.

Would like to think there are a couple of deals set up waiting for other cards to fall in place. We’re looking ok though

Mostly agree, but we're a Matusiwa injury or suspension away from looking pretty weak in midfield

Nonetheless, we're scoring lots of goals and winning plenty of games. It's not like a McKenna team uses the Centre Forward as the primary scorer, anyway. That's always been the role of the second-row forwards and wide-men. There's more of them and can shoot more from distance to beat tight defences. It's not like Philogene and Jack Clarke are putting every shot away, either. Nor did Chaplin in his outstanding seasons. We create a lot, so absolute marksmanship is not so important.

I don't profess to be an expert but to me the best way of buying players is to track them for several weeks/months. We all have seen videos of players where they look fantastic but that is normally highlights and not that players overall game. When for instance we bought Egeli he looked top class and whilst I am not saying he won't be, but he has a way to go to be what we hope for. But then Hutchinson took a while and he wasn't as young or from another country. Also the positions we require which are a ball winning midfielder and or a number 10 which is currently held by Nunez and a goalscoring number 9.
