Nunez - an apology 18:34 - Jan 17 with 1991 viewsitfc_bucks

I've been critical of Nunez and I'm big enough to say I was wrong.

Although I maintain that he has the style of a competition-winner, he's already massively outperforming my expectations and let's just look at outputs, eh?

Marcelino, I apologise. Keep doing your thing - it's glorious!

His first touch is ridiculous. Best technical player at the club.

Most amazing thing about him is his work rate, he’s not afraid to get stuck in and best of all is he actually wins a lot on the air, a few games I have noticed him winning headers and flicking them on into really dangerous positions we did not anticipate. Atleast today when he won a couple of headers we were able to capitalise from them.

To think we got him from Norwich for so cheap is amazing and funny at the same time - it’s a shame he didn’t get the goal to add to his tally.

He's transformed our season for me, I don't think that's being dramatic.

Borg Szmodics and Akpom were struggling to link play high up, and it actually begs the question of whether a back up number 10 should actually be on the wishlist (or do we just use Clarke or Egeli when needed). Nunez came into that spot and has not looked back for a second. He's involved in basically everything good we do.

And the fact that Norwich fans said he is injury prone, yet he hasn't missed a game through injury for us since he signed

I see the comparison Frimley and I loved Jim. But I think Nunez is the more gifted player.

Nunez is a terrific footballer and whatever he cost, it was a bargain. He is a pleasure to watch play. Great character. At 25, he’s only going to improve too.

One of the first names on the team sheet for me.

Edit: at one point in the first half in line with me he clipped a cross field ball to JP or somebody and I swear he put backspin on it like he was using a pitching wedge. Inch perfect.

Second best. Not even close to Jaden but a great player. So good to watch but more importantly very effective. Up there with the best signings we’ve made in the Gamechanger era.

Fair enough for putting your hands up. I don't really get your point about having the style of a competition winner though? He's a really cultured player who plays beautiful passes and hit a clean ball. Which but 'looks' like a competition winner stylistically? Just that he is a bit chunky? Think he's great to watch personally from a style point of view. He does lack pace

One of my favourite things about him (outside of his creativity) is that in a world of robotic footballers these days, he always plays with a proper smile on his face. I know its a stupid thing but its good to see someone out there enjoying themselves.

Certainly helps with the crowd as we love him!

Dont forget we uave Clarke too. His first touch is pretty good too. The two goals he scored and set up at Coventry were started wiyh him taking the ball down with great skill.
A question for the older fans, is this the most skillfull ipswich town team ever? Better than The likes of muhren and Thijssen in thwe 80s? We have kipre, davis and furlong at the back who all look so comfortable on the ball, maybe O'Shea not so

hard to answer that as the pitches, boots and balls are so different now and the whole tekkers skillset wasn't a thing then.

Different times, different game, so hard to directly compare.

What I would say is that the late 70s / early 80s team was one of, if not the, most skilled team in Europe. We're nowhere near that level yet.
