Thought it was noticeable that we played out a lot more yesterday, taking more risks, but generally doing OK. Not Burns versus Coventry levels, but certainly better than the Lambert style shovel it across to Furlong then hit it down the line we’ve seen a little of this season.

Taylor v Cajuste is interesting. Taylor gets a good tackle in and gees the team up, but then Cajuste comes on and produces two slide rule passes, one leading to a goal the other to what should have been a penalty.

I don’t see how that’s a change from what we’ve been doing all season. The only difference is Blackburn aggressively pressed leading to (almost) dangerous errors. Recent opposition-Coventry and Oxford largely stood off and didn’t close Walton down. |  | | |

And I think that sums up how much more varied our play has become. You’ve seen a lot more long balls while the OP was commenting on the short play more like 23-4.
The truth is probably more in the middle as KM’s tactics seem to have evolved and developed, with fewer sides being able to contain us through a single approach. |  | | |

We mixed it up well yesterday, we are not at all predictable, long or playing out caused Blackburn problems, I agree that we are taking more risks playing out and there was a brilliant moment where Walton had two Blackburn players closing him down, he delayed taking the kick so they were quite close and that took them out of play, there was Sindre, I think, wide right and we created a great chance to score. Dara then gave Walton a thumbs up to show that passage of play was planed and practiced on the training pitch. Great to see and so much of our play is about a specific aim that we humble supporters find it difficult to see, but looking at replays later on TV you can sometimes see it. Goals are often created a lot further back the the highlights show. |  | | |

Walton doesn't need to do that every time though, does he? I exaggerate. I know he didn't do it *every* time, but sometimes it looked like he was just doing it for the sake of doing it.
And you must agree that the ball was not sticking to Hirst very well at all! I don't tend to moan, I try to encourage but I must admit I mumbled under my breath a bit at both Walton and Hirst yesterday. Not having a go - just a bit frustrated.
And Sindre was a bit off the pace yesterday. I wonder if he needs a break?
Not moans, Just observations. I heard McKenna say after the gane that there were a couple of silly moments in defence that "we need to take a look at." He wasn't moaning either.

Thing is, it's not a situation of Taylor or Cajuste, but a matter of ustilising the different qualities of each, at different points in a game and against different opponents.
We have a large number of substitutions available and a deep, high-quality squad. It would be foolish not to take tactical advantage of that. After all, for Ipswich under McKenna, it's a tried and tested route to success.
Players (midfield and forwards) just have to get used to the fact that they will play in pretty much every match, but not necessarily as guaranteed starters or for the full 90+ minutes. If that puts potential signings off, then so be it - they won't fit our methods.
I get the impression, from things said in interviews, that McKenna explains all that from the outset. |  |

We have to do both as the aggressive high press can disrupt the playing out from the back, so must be by-passed overhead, but it is also necessary to encourage it sufficiently that their players are drawn out of position for our runs in behind. | |

Starting Taylor alongside Matusiwa gives us a better chance of winning the midfield battle which earns us the right to play a bit more. That's where Cajuste comes in. When Azor gets his 10th booking, it will be interesting to see what happens for those 2 games. | |

For us it's all about how we are playing. Our fans often see it as us playing well or badly in games but a lot of it comes down to who we are playing.
Cov away we we absolutely fantastic in possession because there was space to play through. When teams play a low block we've sussed how not to get caught out (like the Charlton game) but it can be a much more dull watch. But we are working it out now and getting results. | |

Taylor and Cajuste are dovetailing brilliantly at the moment.
I thought Cajuste would start as he's generally better at home, but in hindsight with it being a fairly physical game it made sense to for Taylor to play. Cajuste then coming on against tiring legs was lovely, he made a lot of what he did looked very easy, and he looked more physically imposing than usual for some reason.
If any midfielder signs and starts partnering Matusiwa straight away, we'll have made a very good signing. |  |

I did have a little chuckle when Walton played a mare of a ball to Matusiwa and then berated him for not dealing with it better, never a dull moment playing out under a press. | |
