Apparently he’s on our radar.
I’d suggest hes not what we need. He played last night in exactly the same role that JP and JC play. Hes not an upgrade on either. I didn’t see anything to suggest that he would make a good 10 for us. Hes very lightweight and was knocked off the ball quite easily (granted he was looking for a foul). Id rather have Chappers back if he was to be signed as a 10.

I think he can play anywhere accross the attacking positions and has 14 goal contributions this season!

Off the limited evidence I've seen, i.e. the few times he's played against us, tend to concur with the OP.
Would have made sense if Philogene's injury had been more serious as he's looked good on the LW when I've seem him but nothing really to suggest he can do a job for us as a central #10. | | | |

I’ve seen him live once and on TV once that I’m aware of. He provided the assist in our draw at Bristol City in Sept and all three assists on the tele when City beat Swansea 3-0. Despite that, I can’t honestly say he was someone who stood out and I actually noticed. But that probably says more about me.
His stats speak for themselves and we do need a bit more impact around the box. I’m relaxed about it either way though. |  |

I think this is the thing for me in this January window. The squad is already bolstered with quality options throughout the squad. For instance, If Philogene is not playing, then the next option is Jack Clarke.
I agree with you, I don't think Mehmeti is better than what we've got. I don't really see where he forces his way into the 11 here with the other options we have. If we are to sign anyone this window, then they need to be signings where they add quality into the starting 11 (which is tough, and I imagine it's tough for Ashton and co to make this happen in January) or offer something we don't currently have in the squad.
Could Mehmeti improve further under McKenna? Probably, but we are 6 months away from premier league football again. I'm not convinced he would make the grade in that league, as we have seen with Philogene and Clarke last season. It's a tough step up. I don't think we need to make this signing and have another player in the squad unable to make the step up in the league above. |  |

He creates, which isn’t a strong point of Clarke’s or Philogene’s games really. Plus we can only have one of them on the pitch at a time. Should the question be is he any better than Sammie as a backup option at 10? | |

Isn’t he out of contract at the end of the season? If so it’s probably an opportunity to buy him for a lowish fee.
At the end of this season we might still be in the championship and I’d say it’s a racing certainty that Philogene would be cashed in on in that scenario so it surely would make sense to have his replacement already in the building.
If the other scenario plays out and we’re in the premier league next season the spend on Mehmeti is pretty inconsequential and we’d also stand a chance of profiting on a sale.
I think buying him has a fair bit of merit. Looks a good player to me. |  | | |

Last night was something of an illustration that it's important to consider the team around a player.
Sam Morsy played more than half the game, but had far less impact than he used to in our setup. I'm sure he hasn't lost any of his inherent skill, but things just weren't working quite so well.
Did he perhaps feel a twinge of nostalgia when Matusiwa could hand the ball off, it gets sent wide and we're assailing the Bristol box in a matter of seconds? It's what he used to be able to do here, but now the other players aren't quite at the same level, or running the right lines. |  |

I'm a little apathetic as well, but on an admittedly very simplistic level in that I thin I read he was 5'11" and only 63kg! I think we do need to address the muscularity of the team for another push at PL. | |

Tho we don't really know whether McKenna thinks he's good enough, or simply a player worth keeping an eye on. Reports of having an interest are not necessarily the same as going in with an actual offer. | |
