Couldn't get near Sunderland's prem side. Would be useful for us for 4 months.

That’s the risk with a permanent isn’t it, that we buy a player we may need to ship out in 6 months time. But feck it, it’s not my money so let’s sign him and worry about next season in the summer.

(And maybe we can improve someone like him so he’s ok in the PL. But we all know what happened last time we thought we could improve mostly Championship players in the PL - we don’t want a repeat of last season).

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Sounds ideal, combative, dynamic and tidy in the centre of midfield, played a major part in the Championship promotion team, also skippering them in the playoff final, hopefully Jack Clarke is in his ear.

Clarke could explain what it is like being a very good player, but having someone slightly better in your position within the squad …

My only reservation about some of the players we are interested in is that we end up with a lot of dead wood if we were to get promoted and these players weren't good enough for a Premier League squad as we were found seriously wanting last season where even the likes of Hutchinson and Delap had a few good games but were in the main outclassed as were the likes of Morsy and Davis had a pretty poor season also.
Admittedly we now have Matusiwa and Kipre, Clarke and Philogene along with Nunez.
But I still feel we would be half a dozen players short of the squad we would need.

That’s almost unavoidable at this point unless we keep our powder dry and do nothing, which is an option of course. I’d imagine priority number 1 is to get there and give ourselves that headache to deal with in the summer.

If we go up there will be at least 10 out, some more obvious than others. Ogbene, Chaplin, H. Clarke, Humphreys, Baggott, Townsend, Muric, one of Palmer & Walton, Szmodics, perhaps Akpom as we’ll be obliged to make it perm and possibly ship him straight out, Young, Johnson, maybe Burns. Taylor possibly. All players who are under contract currently and mostly not like to stay on in the event of promotion.

And of course there’s a scenario where where we aren’t promoted and selling one or two stars. Mehmeti and potentially Dan Neil fit a profile that will be very useful next season if are still in the championship.

Pretty much what I was thinking, although the risk is low if we go up. Shifting top-end Championship players won’t be a problem and we could even afford to take a financial hit on them. I’m not convinced the likes of Kipre and Nunez would make the step up, who knows?

Pete O'Rourke saying that WHU are leading the race on Neil and he usually gets good gen on these things.

You would think WHU need better if they are to escape.

Sunderland are playing West Ham today, so if he is going there, he would be out of the squad.

Daily Record in Scotland is claiming us and Rangers are the 2 clubs ‘leading the way’ for his signature.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

All sorts being banded around then, probably by agent to see if anyone desperate and offers better terms. You would think both those parties would have reputable sources to give info.

One to watch I guess but probably happens soon if out of squad.
