5 wins in a row, 1 defeat 18:29 - Jan 24 with 1390 viewsChris_ITFC

Everyone loses their minds again. We now need to get rid of all of the following (according to the threads)... Why did no one mention this before today?

Hirst
Taylor
Szmodics
Egeli
Walton
Cajuste
Greaves
McKenna

No ones lost their minds chris

People are rightfully discussing our incredibly poor away form. 13th.

And discussing the continued poor performances of some individuals. That doesnt take away anything else weve achieved at home.

Hirst. Egeli. Szmodics. Esp have all been discussed way before today too.

Don't quote 13th. We've played the least away games in the league.

But then stats don't appear to be your area of expertise...

Well yeah

Some things are correct but maybe shouldn't be said

Egeli looks worse than mcateer and the stats back it up.

If you go by PPG away from home, we're still not top ten. So it's not great whatever way you look at it.

Szmodics is certainly one that would benefit from moving on, not just for us but for himself. Egeli would benefit from a loan.

The rest is nonsense, none of them should be moved on this window.

That doesn’t take away from the fact we are generally really poor away from home, particularly the dog fights away - we lack that character away from home.

That’s nothing new, today just reaffirmed it.

Really we should be able to get into the top 2 but our away form is not up to that expectation and thus that is why I think this season we will be in the play offs.

Maybe no bad thing as a good chance looking at the others that will be around the play offs that we can at least get to Wembley this year.

February is going to be the critical month, continue our poor away form and play offs is the best we can hope for.

It’s because when it comes to the crunch we are missing something. We hardly ever turn up away from home. And our forwards are blo0dy useless apart from Clarke and Jaden. If we hadn’t got those two what a rabble we have left up top. On paper we should have an absolutely devastating forward line,in reality they are pretty powder puff.

I've been going away regularly for 15 years now.

Tonight I just feel sad. People cheering Hirst being substituted, bloke behind me saying Egeli you're #££+.

And worst of all load of idiots on the train singing the Fashanu song. Shameful and utterly disgraceful.

Last time I was at Bramall Lane was when we lost at the end of relegation to League one season. There was none of the above.

The manner of the defeat is the problem. Everyone has bad days at the office, but that was spineless. As a team we weren't up for the fight, where is the character from a couple of years ago when we went behind and took points from the game?

You are missing the point. Back then the club was followed by ITFC supporters who’d seen mostly garbage for years. But it was their team and their club no matter how dreadful the players.

Not now. This club is followed by many of the worst. People who are entitled. Entitled to a win every week and by at least 3-0 too. If they don’t get that, players get the treatment. They cost a fortune so deserve it. Get the boot in. Boo them off, ridicule them.

If I can’t see a thumping win, I’ll get my moneys worth by destroying a player if I can. I’m entitled, I’ve paid my money. Think of the pleasure of booing a keeper in a pre season game before he comes on. With a bit of luck wreck his confidence, he’ll play badly and you’ll justify your hate. How about abusing a centre forward when he comes off? That’ll tell him. Hopefully he’ll play worse next time and we can get rid.

Same with a 19 year old. Cost a fortune, hate him, get the boot in, try and break him. It’s the same sort of pleasure, only far more cowardly of course, many blokes get from violence. The old adrenaline rush when you smash somebody and see the claret flowing.

That’s this club’s ‘support’. I suspect the players would prefer to play in front of nobody than be subjected to that. I know I would.

Those that engage in this, I’d be interested to hear what you get from it? Are your lives so empty you’ve nothing better to do?

There’s no excuse for what was a bad defeat yesterday. They were better than us on the day. There’s even less excuse for the pathetic behaviour of some of our support. They should be better than that but since they clearly don’t understand sport or really follow this club we can forget that. The Fashanu song? Dear god.

I probably do half the away games, and would have to agree I’ve been really surprised by the atmosphere this season. There’s so much bitchy chit chat and haste to groan.

Hypothesis: The points system ‘forces’ people to go more often than they’d like, which doesn’t help, and naturally, as the ‘most committed’ fans, there’s a sense of entitlement to be serviced with performances worthy of that commitment. “I pay my money; I got up at 6am; I can moan if I want to.”

Sadly, football doesn’t work like that.

Well said.

It's a tragedy really because the club has always traditionally had patient and good support and followers who knew football.

We've now got a large number of morons who are entitled exactly as you say.

There's been so much of it this season so I don't know why I'm surprised but yesterday was grim. It started with the Fashanu song being sung on the train.. Disgraceful.

'Supporters' slagging off Egeli and Hirst from first whistle.

People travelled miles to get there and yet about half didn't bother to stay to clap KM when he came over and the team.

Strange feel to the game and our support.

Absolutely spot on.

Yesterday was my first away game of the season as I was fortunate enough to pick up a return and I was stunned by some of the things I heard. I agree, a lot of it is entitlement, which reflects society today in so many ways, but I really don't understand these people who spend a lot of time and money only to go and be miserable and get on the players backs throughout. Football has always been about the highs and lows, it is not possible to win every game.

Sheffield United yesterday were properly up for it and we couldn't compete for whatever reason, whether it was just one of those days or whatever. I didn't see an ITFC team that weren't trying as I've seen before. Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and admit that we lost to the better team. Just because we have an expensive squad does not mean we are entitled to turn up and win every game - we are there to be got at and we have to rise to the challenge.

I was glad that a good number of supporters around me at the end still applauded the team and manager because they have been on a good run and one defeat, however frustrating and annoying, is not the end of the world. Yes, there are issues to be addressed, but constantly getting on the backs of players, especially teenagers, is not going to help matters.

You efficiently summarise the swings in optimism and pessimism that undoubtedly afflict us. Over-reactions are frequent, and I am sure I am as culpable as most.

But what I would say is that this board is right about Hirst and McAteer, come rain or shine. Burns is clearly our best option on the right, and frankly I'd rather have Egeli, Clarke, Philogene, Ogbene, or Johnson out there than McAteer. He's been a jolly old waste of money on current evidence.

Hirst, gotta love him for his past contributions, but he ain't no top 6 striker and we have top 2 aspirations. Norwich have two strikers who are clearly better than Hirst. Admittedly only one of them agrees to actually play football, but one seems to be enough for their purposes.

Although I suppose Norwich scored as many in their last away game as we've scored in our last 5 away games without even needing a goal from Makama.

remember 2023/24, remember 2022/23, end of January people were losing their heads that we werent going to do it the players were all rubbish, the manager was rubbish...and then remember how that turned out.

promotion gets decided at the end of the season, not now, not in this transfer window, not at Bramall Lane, at the end of the season.

theres 18 games still to play, and look at who our penultimate home game of the season is against.
