What we should have done is try and sign the Championship Golden Boot winner from last year...oh wait we did try!!
Forget that, maybe go back a year and sign the Golden Boot winner from the season before...oh, hang on, we did that and have just loaned him out.
OK, maybe someone hungry to regain the Golden Boot, let's go back a couple of seasons...damn, he's sitting on our bench.
Just look at our team, where are the goals coming from, we've only got the second top scorer, three players in the top 20 goalscorers and between them they've only scored 29 goals.
Compare that to top scorers Coventry who have three players on 30 between them, Hull, Wrexham and Derby who have two players in the top 20, Boro who have one player in the top 20, Millwall, Watford and Preston who have none in the top 20.
Our recruitment team sucks, why are they not trying to bring in a proven goalscorers. How are we supposed to compete with these sides at the top with our lack of firepower???

One could argue that Szmodics and Akpom are anything but 'proven' goalscorers. No more so than Daryl Murphy was, anyhow. They had one huge purple patch and have failed to back it up in subsequent seasons. Is that progressive recruitment?

Under the circumstances - in which we were the upstart underdog attepting to achieve the almost impossible - then hoovering up much of the Champ-level talent available to us (given good, fit and in form Prem forwards weren't interested in joining a relegation candidate) was not a bad policy. Considering we got Clarke and Philogene at the same time, a 50% success rate is none too shabby in football.
100% agree with this post. Some of our fans seem to think if you spend 25 .million on a striker all will be solved, it wont, it not the players its our tempo and lack of ball speed in the final third.

Have to agree re the tempo thing. Some confuse tempo with 'get it forward quicker' but it's the ponderous speed of our passing and general lack of good movement that can be painful to watch when we are chasing a game. We allow teams to get set in their shape and our lack of tempo and movement means we don't pull them around enough to get them out of that shape.

It's a great point. Do you think competition for places in the squad has an affect on the tempo of a game? I mean, the "guilty parties" for the ponderous approach in the last match were arguably the players who are first on the team sheet every week... possibly?
I'm not saying that it's the only factor, obviously, but it could be a contributing factor.

I think what we need to look for isn't necessarily a golden Boot but a player averaging 10-15 goals a season over three seasons. Sir Bobby was actually pretty good with the likes of Clarke and Robertson who saved us from demotion, Rod Belfitt who was a Leeds supersub and of course Paul Mariner. Non were players scoring us 20-25 goals per season. But they were steady eddies. But as with any successful team you also need the midfield and defence chipping in with a few goals also. The midfield seemingly being more of a goalscoring problem than the defence.

Get the sarcasm, and the post, but I'm not sure the majority of people even thought this. Just someone who could occasionally weigh in with a goal and score a few easy chances.
Ironically, 2 players who were dismissed as not good enough, are on 10+ goals (Moore and McBurnie).
I would argue Azon would not get in the starting line up for most teams in this league...!
