Difficult league 16:34 - Feb 15 with 2120 viewsNthsuffolkblue

I have read on here a few times that the standard in the Championship is poor this season and the logic appears to be that anyone is beating anyone (aside from Sheff Wed who still gave Millwall a bit of a fright for a while) and there isn't a team or a few of them running away with it.

However, my thoughts are that it is when a league is easy, one or two teams run away with it. In a low quality league one or two teams that are better win most of their matches. The fact that teams like nodge, Leicester, West Brom and Blackburn are in the lower third (and nodge are 2nd in the form table), and that teams like Millwall and Preston are doing well (when traditionally they might be expected to struggle) only goes to prove how difficult the division is this time around.

Yes! Cancel the open top bus! We’ll just all say thank god for that and go on about our summer lol.

Can remember Newcastle fans saying this after their last promotion to the Prem.

Because everyone expected it and expectations were impossibly high, it was a season of tetchiness and therefore one of the most miserable promotions ever.

In which case, don't expect a pitch invasion!

At least that will save another argument.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

I think it’s quite a lot more than just a few idiots. This could end up being the most miserable promotion ever!

Ive said before this place is absolutely placid compared with social media.

The memes, jokes, videos and constant pi55 taking of Hirst is way worse than anything ive ever seen before. Its verging on pure hatred.

Coupled with total meltdown at every defeat (and most draws) it becomes really depressing/draining. I get the, well just avoid it, but those algorithms ensure everything Ipswich appears on my time line.

Its clearly not everyone, but it seems like the majority, not just a few loons.

Some blades fans had no interest in going to wembley last year, I remember hearing that.

I'd say the standard is really low, but the competitiveness is high and that is doing a lot of heavy lifting at the minute. The idea that teams like Hull and Preston are anywhere near top six is ludicrous because they are absolutely dreadful.

I also think the fact that many teams are playing low blocks, is proof of a lower quality. There's not a huge amount of in ball time and not a lot of teams are interested in football at all.

Anyone who has functioning eyes can see what a poor division it is this season.

Hull were appalling when we played them and no better when Boro played them soon after and are fifth.
Preston were awful both times against us and are seventh.

The standard is dreadful, keep it tight, sh1thouse every game and play a low block against anyone who might score against you and job done.

The only decent teams have been us at times, Cov before they imploded and Boro. Possibly the Blunts when they can be bothered.

one of the most spot on posts i've read on here.

the poor quality of the league is probably what sees the frustrations grow when we drop points. as mentioned, Burnley would be 10 points clear if in this division now. I hate to say it, that's what our aim really should be, with the wages/manager we have. in an idyllic world of course.

when i look at where we have dropped points, or put in really poor performances,

Away - PNE, Oxford, Leicester, Sheff Utd
Home - Derby, Charlton, Wrexham, PNE

its them where i look back and think they could really cost us come may. and i cant even really counter those by saying "well we picked up points hear when we shouldnt" because we're yet to turn a loss into a defeat.

the coventry games show that we can turn it on, that away game was just brilliant.

Indeed, the first goal in these games is so important. If we score first, I'd be confident we'll win.

I think this is the point and I think it is far more about our opponents than it is about us. A couple of years ago, if we went behind games were still open enough for us to win a good number of them. This season, if we fall behind we really have our work cut out to get a draw.

The flip side of it is that if we go ahead we rarely fail to win.

This also makes games seem far less exciting and hence where I think a lot of the recent frustrated claims that we are boring to watch.

I think it is more that the patient style of playing out from the back and the turgid, formulaic football further up the pitch is slowly killing the entertainment value. Teams are stifling eachother with copycat tactics very successfully and the lack of entertainment then gives the impression that the standard is poor. Teams are set up well by their managers, but exciting it is not.

The biggest difference in Championshio teams this season compared to the last time we were here is the levels of fitness. Two seasons ago we were probably the fittest team in the division. I think most other teams have realised that they've had to close the gap. Wrexham on Friday was a prime example. Teams are also far more physical and it's becoming more about winning individual battles Furlong, O'Shea and Kipre are warriors and as much as I don't like Delap's antics, he would be thriving in this division.
