Why do you want it to be 'fair'? the team that finished third should have an advantage over the team that finished 6th. It's up to the team to finish 6th to prove they were better than the team that finished third.
I like the Swedish ice-hockey system, where the team that finished highest get to choose their opponents. Once that's done, the next highest team can choose, if they haven't already been chosen. Means the team that finishes highest can choose to avoid a team that is obviously bang in form. |  | | |

Agree, plus it allows the teams comming through the 1st round of it to build a little momentum.
I think this is nothing but a money grab and attempt to generate more talk American style. Before we know it tbe 1st round will be called the playins and we'll all be subjected to a half time show by Coldplay at the final. That’s how the POs worked when they first came in.
