To be fair, she still has a special talent as Trump needed to start a war to get anywhere near her decimation.

This is the biggest risk as I see things.

When you get these parabolic moves in one asset, like Oil, spillover effects are huge and the chances of something breaking somewhere else goes us exponentially once margin calls and set.

Think Trump’s stance is the biggest problem.

Mr Trump said that any decision to end the war would be taken mutually with Binyamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister.

Meanwhile ▸ Britain’s foreign secretary, Yvette Cooper, defended Sir Keir Starmer’s approach to the Iran war, saying the government should avoid “outsourcing” foreign policy.

Time for Starmer, Carney and EU to explain to Trump that he, and he alone, is creating a monster in danger of getting out of control.

There was an interview with the war crime leader of Israel on Saturday where he said the action they were taking on Iran was something he had 'dreamed of' for 40 years.

Trump is very much doing the war mongers work.

There was a UN Security Council vote yesterday only UK & France voted with US against it.

Looks like Russia are putting forward a resolution calling for a ceasefire, hopefully both France & UK will support it.

Oh the irony of the war criminal Putin wanting a ceasefire, while still murdering Ukrainian civilians - the world is f&&ked

We could at least exert public opinion pressure to get rid of Truss. There is no leverage when it comes to Trump, Netanyahu or Young Khameini, however much we might want to see all three gone.

The USA has been dreaming of revenge for the Iranian Revolution since 1979.

It's a convergence of desires, coupled with a lack of inhibitions (plus amateur loose thinking about consequences and/or a need to divert).

I had to turn the radio off this morning when I heard the some sick Israeli ex-military bastard insisting it was all being done to free the people of Iran, as if the land-stealing, murdering, expansionism and repression of the last eighty years was entirely without consequence or significance.

The constant whining, sanitising, evil-justifying propaganda from these inhuman bastards, lapped up by the flaccid BBC with only half-hearted challenging makes me sick.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

We're carefully treading around comparative language all the time, aren't we, and of course there's no equivalence at the moment but there's a trend and a wearing away of what we've gained since 1945 and a ratcheting down of responsibility and the movement that Tr*mp and N*tanyahu are at the forefront of certainly bears comparison to the 1930s.

Unfortunately the US does not recognise the ICC. The irony is Maduro could have otherwise faced justice (given the court has an open investigation into his crimes against humanity). When the world’s largest economy doesn’t recognise an international institution unfortunately it’s severely undermined.

As parties likely to appear before it, it is no surprise that the United States, China, India, Israel, North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, Iran and Syria are not members of the ICC.

One of the biggest checks in the global economy are equities, bonds and commodities.

Trump will be being relentlessly lobbied behind close doors to conclude this crisis.

It's perhaps the world's most coherent rebuttal. He has blamed Israel for the oil prices which again means he's feeling under pressure.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Thing is, Trump can't conclude this crisis. The rhetoric so far has left him pretty much no easy off-ramp, quite apart from the difficulty of stopping Israel's headlong action (he can't suddenly turn round and cut Netanyahu off, even if he wanted to).

Calling a halt now would be the very definition of a half-arsed job, stirring up the Iranians, leaving a probably vengeful man in charge and without having really weakened the regime in terms of its hold on the country (albeit smashing a lot of infrastructure, but that can be rebuilt).

To retain any kind of plausible "face", he has to push through to some sort of tangible victory (the same problem Putin has in Ukraine). That isn't going to be achieved by a bombing campaign, certainly not a short one. Especially now the Israelis have become sidetracked into pummelling Hezbollah again. He won't be able to dismantle the IRGC (plus the Basij, the religious police, the ordinary police, the judiciary, the religious authorities, etc.) from the air. The Kurds/Balochis/Arabs don't have the strength or heavy equipment, plus they might well be opposed by the majority Shi'a Persians on ethnic grounds.

Basically, he's stuck unless he can find somebody to pull his chestnuts out of the fire, or is prepared to risk some almighty (and patently implausible) fudge. The ease of the Venezuela operation - particularly the cooperation of parts of the Maduro's own government - seems to have led to some extremely loose thinking in Mar-a-Lago.

It's not a direct parallel with WW2, but the dropping of bombs on Japan was just ahead of a ground campaign the USA never wanted to do/wouldn't win.

I hope even his Generals would stop him doing anything as horrific.

There's nothing he could nuke which would be likely to end the conflict. They aren't very useful weapons in that regard, especially given the global diplomatic consequences of their use.

In practical terms, the Iranian leadership and active military forces are dispersed and/or underground. Not suitable targets for nukes (as opposed to precision conventional munitions).

Devastating cities would get nowhere other than openly causing massive civilian casualties (plus a wider fallout problem). Not a good look, even for Trump.
