| Antisemitism reared its ugly head once again this weekend on 08:54 - Mar 23 with 1999 views | Whos_blue | Depressing to wake up to this news today. A hate fueled attack for sure. I don't suppose we'll know what the tipping point for this action was. Is it a general hatred of Jews or something related to the current heavyhandiness of the IDF in the middle east? Is this even important? I don't know. By no means am I looking at both sidesing this or making some equivalency, but I was equally depressed to see this report yesterday. BBC News - Israeli settlers target Palestinian villages in occupied West Bank, attacking people and properties https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/art Whilst it's not clear exactly what the catalyst for the attacks are (deliberate or accidental road traffic collision), it seems the settlers need little excuse to go on the attack. It's a mess whatever way you look at it. | |

No, it's not important as to why. Targeting ambulances because they are owned by a Jewish charity is textbook antisemitism. Linking it to the crimes being committed in the West Bank is wrong and I would urge you to think again about why you have done so.

I would say it's very important to understand why. How can you possibly solve any problem without knowing the reason for it. Why do people dislike, Arabs, Chinese, Russians, Persians, Jews, Muslims or any group of people? Blanket hatred of any peoples is based on ignorance, so how can we seek to educate hateful people if we simply say "it's not important as to why"? Attacking ambulances in the hope that a national or religious group will change its behaviour on the other side of the planet is as ignorant and evil as killing a religious leader and expecting a whole nation to rise up and spark regime change.

….I’m stating you have both-sided this subject immediately after stating you were not. Many posters do that regularly on here. Nothing else, so you can calm down and stop imagining things. My point still stands.

You're right to be pi55ed off, insinuation is a powerful tool in behaviour control. You're also right to be trying to make sense of these terrible events.

I really don’t see what’s wrong with trying to understand the motivation behind these attacks. Without that, how can we stop things like that happening. If the arseholes that did this were motivated by what they’ve read online, we should be tackling disinformation online. If it was as a result of warped media, we should be tightening regulation around media. If it was a result of a reprisal from then Palestine situation, we should be seeking to dampen the rhetoric of pro-Palestine groups. If it was Iran sponsored, we should be extra vigilant with our counter-terrorism activities. ‘Both-siding’ shouldn’t be confused with understanding the context. One seeks to excuse the other seeks to understand so something can be done. I see no evidence you’re trying to excuse this vile attack.

The motivation is hatred against Jews. Full stop. We don’t try to contextualise Islamophobic attacks against Muslims in the UK with events happening elsewhere in the world. We condemn them without reservation. When those animals were attacking migrants in hotels in response to the son of an immigrant murdering those little girls in Southport we didn’t attempt to contextualise their actions. We condemned them without reservation. We quite rightly called the, racists. It’s only when attacks against Jews this happens.

Agreed. Understanding the motivation behind these attacks is the first step in dealing with the hatred which motivates people to commit such atrocities. Simply being outraged and lashing out at "these animals" is not conducive to de-escalating tensions when the world is a tinder box right now.

Thanks Swanners. I'm not in any way trying to excuse the disgusting attack. I'm trying to understand the motivation. Not only the antisemitism, but also the senseless loss of vital life saving community assets. I simply cannot accept bloots' insinuation that I'm somehow both sidesing this terrible attack. That is simply incorrect and moreover, very unfair and uncalled for. I have been consistent in my posts on this issue. Inquisitive and always thoughtful. Nothing else.

I fail to see how the two instances are in anyway connected? Other than both being awful. These weren't Israeli ambulances being attacked, they had nothing to do with the Middle East.

I don't think you meant any harm by your posts but it is incredibly frustrating to see this sort of contextualisation whenever there is an attack on non Israeli Jews around the world. Your link about the settler violence deserves a thread of its own. Or could be posted on one of the many threads about the situation in the middle east. The actions of the settlers are deplorable. It's terrorism. But it doesn't belong here when once again the british Jewish community wake up to another anti semitic attack. Without intent, your posts reads as whataboutery. That is my opinion. Some may agree and some may disagree. I refer to to my earlier post about Islamophobic attacks on UK Muslims and the Southport rioters.

What is the nuance? Conflating this with the issues in the Middle East is a false narrative. It's antisemitism plain and simple. I don't much care for the rationale of the perpetrators, whatever that may be.

When Netanyahui says he is “A representative of the entire Jewish people.” Reported by the Washington Post and cited in an American Council for Judaism analysis and “I went to Paris not just as the prime minister of Israel, but as a representative of the entire Jewish people. ”Quoted in the Jewish Journal. In his role of Head of the state of Israel, is he not conflating all Jews with Israel? Some of us are bright enough not to conflate normal peace-loving Jews with the actions of Israel. Some of us can even extend that ability to normal Russians and Iranians with the actions of Russia and Iran. Unfortunately, not everybody has the ability to read Netanhayu's conflation of Israel and all Jews and not follow suit. So, yes there is nuance. I see "posters" on this forum regularly claim "this has nothing to do with Israel, it's an attack on Jews and therefore anti-semitism." Is it a surprise that normal people make this mistake when the PM of the country is conflating the two entities? [Post edited 23 Mar 11:51]
