So I was at the match for a change on Saturday 09:19 - Mar 23 with 1861 viewsbaxterbasics

With my boy, we got what was almost the last available two seats together, close to the pitch in the corner of the lower south, right by the away fans. I said to him "this is a great spot to be in if things go well, not so much fun if *they* have a good day." Proved to be correct.

What struck me though come the end, is the sheer anger problem a small minority of fans have. There was one young chap, as we were walking out after FT, shouting to all unfortunate enough to hear: "effing gutless. So effing gutless, that last twenty minutes was a disgrace" and he was proper feewwwwming about it. Repeating his mantra over and over.

Sure, I too was a little gutted we threw it away like that, but I managed not to let it ruin my day, or year, or life like it seemed to this affected individual. I didn't go so far as to say "calm down bud, it's only a game" but still.

What is it about some people that they have so much anger and lack of control of their emotions that they lose it so easily?

Couple of away games this season I've been sat in front of people ranting (not merely grumbling, actually furious) at McKenna and the team for virtually the entire game. The Leicester one was the worst, swearing and saying the most vile things (tho, TBF, not racist).

Made me think, do they actually enjoy going to the match?

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

….of that Millwall fella totally losing the plot after we scored.

He was literally the angriest man I have ever seen.

Spent the next 15 minutes trying to get the phone numbers of Ipswich fans.

I assume this was to arrange a straightener rather than a romantic meal.

Funny.

I think it's a thing where "they" want to be seen to be outwardly angry and upset because it makes them look more of a supporter than you and I . Do they think it's making them look more upset and hurt by bemoaning players and manager ?

It could be that or they're just coked up to the eye balls and haven't a clue

Either way it's counterproductive and very annoying

Basically, if we win every week they are calm and "sing their hearts out for the lads". Should we dare to draw or lose then McKenna should be shot against a post on the Cornhill, and the players all sold.

They will also find the name of a young coach managing a team in Serie B who could do a better job, ignoring the fact there are far more Liam Mannings and Will Stills than Keith Andrews out there.

Best not to give these people the attention they clearly crave.

Yup it probably is more performative rather than a genuine loss of head. "look at me and how much I care"

Not sure if that makes it worse or not.

At the Sheffield Utd match a bloke very near me spent the entire first half ranting about McKenna. When he walked past at half time I calmly asked him which team he'd managed as he obviously knew so much more about football than McKenna. Thought he was going to explode and I was getting ready to duck.

I don’t get why people get so carried away with it all tbh.

I thought it was a fair result.

Couldn't make it Saturday owing to work commitments, sounds like you might have been in our seats.

What you describe is a regular thing in that spot, enough that I've considered moving for next season, but I'm not sure where in the ground would be any better based on what we see on here on a regular basis post and during matches.

Important to say, the bulk of it seems to come from match to match ticket holders rather than season ticket holders.

A few of us commented after the game there was a real anger edge with some of the crowd for that game that we couldn't work out what caused it as sure there are some idiots in any crowd by law of averages but that seemed very performative and ott for the game and time

For 1230 on a Saturday to be that worked up within 5mins of the game its like were they all on the columbian marching powder or something.

One guy in our stand spent the whole game continually effing and jeffing about Clarke...only shut up when he scored

Nah most of it is people using football as a release from other problems. Suspect it’s actually quite healthy.
