My post against the Farage visit picked up traction and now the comments are full of people with flags in their profile picture throwing some incredible insults. The creative or humorous ones by far drowned out by pure vitriol.

Obviously, it's totally my choice to post, but seems depressing that the football club we support allowed the divisive politics of the outside world into our escape from it all.

I've turned notifications off for the foreseeable.

I posted something on X earlier, but CBA to go and see if it's upset anyone or not!

I went for a while earlier blocking anyone abusive - but there was so much I turned off/limited replies-to people I follow just seemed easier tbh.

Having different opinions is one thing - but the vile cess pit that is twitter today is something else.

The experience of you and others in this thread/board is why I don't use Twitter anymore. Abuse is not just normalised, but actively and deliberately promoted. It's a vile cesspit. I'll occasionally go on to look for something specific, but I'll never post again and I'll definitely not waste my time searching through Torrents of bots, racists and racist bots to find some decent replies to posts.

I've found it bit of a social experiment, trying to identify the bots (lots) and those who are actual people (usually because of quite funny spelling errors).

It's definitely becoming more normalised, the pretty horrendous convergence of 'free speech' and 'I should be able to say anything I want with no consequences'.

A game of Thick, Bot or Millionaire would cheer you up (hint, most are either thick or bots or thick bots)

Yeah, me too. I've been called everything today on there.
A selection (which they think are insults apparently):
Gay, Muslim, Mormon, Snowflake, Lefty, Woke, cry baby, 'not a patriot', Islamist.

There are a lot of very weird people out there who I assume are sharing a brain cell at this point.

String them together and you have a really poor go at a Blackadder style insult.
