Probably a sensible approach, but they have had local MPs at the club of various stripes in the past and they may well have had tours, although obviously not using them in the way Reform did. I think that is where their 'trying not to be political by stopping the booking' comes from. As it is, they then compounded the matter by allowing the social media stuff, which really should have been the red flag which ought to have ended the matter.

That we've hosted MPs historically doesn't mean it's correct in the age of social-media viral wildfires. Isn't it the job of a Communications Director to foresee problems like this? "compounded the matter by allowing the social media stuff" - indeed. Should be terminal for whoever is responsible for such a colossal gaff.

There really is no defence for this and whoever gave direct or indirect approval really must be held accountable here. When it became clear what the Reform plan for the event was, we should have just given them their cash back and told them to sling their hook. Whatever pi$$poor statement we put out now, the fact remains that we look like the club tacitly endorses Farage and his divisive, lunatic fringe.

| Phil - just out of interest on 10:09 - Mar 25 by darkhorse28 | The Nazis started with a Democratic minority government. Obviously not conflating the two. I think there’s zero chance our Nige will get more votes than Rupert Lowe, I’d bet my mortgage on that.., Lowe isn’t a low IQ tub thumper - Restore will wipe the floor with him, and I think he knows it. He fascinates me, he looked genuinely terrified when he won the Brexit vote, and that’s why he was in the first plane out of the UK…., he’s like Corbyn in SO many ways. They like to protest, and be angry, because it’s low rent. Easy politics, you don’t need to think, you don’t need to solve problems, it’s like a student protest, and they both lack th intelligence. The nuance or the gravitas to solve what are often complex issues. Not that we have many or possibly even any politicians that seem to have this capacity. Great leadership is hard to find. I think this is why Trump is so popular. Like him, loath him, agree or disagree, he doesn’t mess around. He has policies and ideas, and brings them to life, he’s a conviction politician who gets things done in a world of sociopaths who signal their virtue and largely do the opposite …, across the political divide. Lowe is Farages kryptonite - clearly bribed in doing things not talking about them …, that will resonate with that side of the political spectrum very well indeed. Many years before an election, I think our Nige might just have his timing very wrong and he’ll be a sub note in UK (party) political history like most of his career. He’ll be know as opening the door for Restore I suspect .., but neither will get a majority. The Greens are my biggest concern. A man trying to increase woman’s breast size with hypnosis, could have serious say in a hung parliament, an actor, a showman, anything but a serious problem solver. That really is scary. Factional, angry, and again Corbyn esk in wanting to be angry FAR more than wanting to solve problems. Move to Spain until it blows over maybe. |
It was all gojng so well until your Trump assessment. He has policies and ideas, and brings them to life, he’s a conviction politician who gets things done in a world of sociopaths who signal their virtue and largely do the opposite …, across the political divide.
