'Ashton out chants' 15:26 - Apr 2 with 4766 viewsdan1878_

I cannot beleive that with 8 games to go people are going to try get 'we want Ashton out' chants going. The atmosphere this season has been pretty flat especially compared to other seasons. Also when Marcus Evans was killing the club there was not this much commotion and people trying to start protests, when real change was needed.

Ashton has made a mistake apolgised for it but instead of moving on with our lives people want to destroy the person who has changed our club and transformed us to levels I did not think we would reach.

If people want to make an impact monday sing for the whole 90 minutes and get behind the players. There are far more worse things in the world happening right now.

Well said. Totally agree. Let's get right behind the team on Monday. Negativity in the stands will impact the team on the pitch. Any protests about individuals can wait until after the season finishes. The team has very important business to attend to and need our support. Come on you blues!

Absolutely agree with this. It's sad it happened and it's a shame. But move on. It's done. You can't change it, can't rearrange it. Get behind the team

One of the reasons why the atmosphere is flat is due to Ashton not giving a damn about it. If he was, Blue Action would be giving more encouragement and treated better.

Ashton out.

But is this not how they emotionally blackmail you into never challenging bad things though? Because at what point will the football club not have important games to play? Never.

Making sure they know they can't treat the club and the fans like this is important.

And judging by the apparent views of the players, a vocal show of support might give them a boost and show unity.

Just as likely as them being bothered that some of us want a different CEO arguably.

I appreciate the positivity, but I don't really like being told what to do or not do.

I don't join in with the Delia chants, but I don't tell people around me not to sing them.

I think you should perhaps respect that people are still very angry at Ashton's behaviour, and it's not up to you to tell them when they should move on.

I feel like he has been challenged and he has come out an apologised. Always get one chance with things like this for me. if it keeps happening then more questions can be asked but it is the first time this happened.

People are welcome to support the team how they see fit. The vast majority of people, on both sides of the debate, have expressed how they wish to get behind the team and support them, 100% towards promotion, and that any protest (for those that feel so inclined) should be kept away from the team.

I'm sure not everyone agrees with that, but the feeling I get is that the majority feel that way.

Also, fwiw, even if there were Ashton out chants during the match (which I think is unlikely, unless the team collapse), I think that is probably less detrimental to the team than, oooh, I dunno, booing your own goalkeeper or yelling at our striker that he is shit (not saying the OP, or anyone in this thread has done this, but it happens... a LOT more than I am comfortable with).

Ashton out

This is the Mark Ashton equivalent of when we were told that the succession period between Liz and Charles was not the appropriate point to have a discussion about the future of the monarchy.

As another poster has said, this is just emotional blackmail from Ashton/the club along the lines of 'if you protest against Ashton, we won't get promoted'.

I'd much rather have Ashton out, and run the risk of not getting promoted.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

It would sadden me if someone's chant of "Blue Army" was overshadowed by chants about Ashton. First, Ashton isn't on the pitch, and second, to chant something that might be wrongly taken as in someone else's name is rude and divisive in itself.

As McKenna says, there are different opinions. I wouldn't expect or want it any other way, but within Portman Road the common opinion has always been "C'mon the Town".

Indeed.

Given what we can ascertain about the reaction of the players by joining the various dots (Guardian reports; someone on here mentioning that the PFA was involved and helping draft a statement; the general make-up of the squad), the players would probably be more buoyed by such chanting than they would be put off.

"I feel like he has been challenged and he has come out an apologised." - what has he apologised for?

"Always get one chance with things like this for me." - No issue with that. However, I would just point out that the Club denied they had anything to do with the visit, hadn't made it known to staff, players, sponsors or even the owners, then doubled down, then lied and obfuscated, then failed to mention a lunch and finally, as a result, Reform have weaponised the Club as part of it's promotion campaign. Then, an apology - which isn't really an apology as it doesn't take any accountability or ownership (see my first question) How many 'chances' would you like Ashton to have?

For me, I don't want success at any cost but that's just my position - everyone is different.

"Ashton has made a mistake apolgised " - which mistake did he apologise for dan?

Regularly, throughout our history, we've fully backed the team while calling for the removal of a malign influence. Usually managers. Ashton is further removed from the team than most, so this time, more than ever, it's fine to do both.

Back the boys, back removing Ashton.

Indeed, the two are not mutually exclusive.

For some, sadly, it has to be a binary issue. It is very frustrating and why I have stepped back from it all, but I 100% back what you say.

2 things can be true. It is not "us and them", and if those who thought it were chose to actually engage with the issues raised, then perhaps some consensus could be reached.

Never going to happen though. You are either for the team or against the team, and godammit, I won't hear different.

With respect. I have no wish to derail the club I love and have supported for over 50 years.

I do have a wish that we conduct ourselves, as a Club, in the manner of those values, behaviours and ethos as a Club that we publicise. I do not wish for the Club to have success at any cost.

How we are successful is as important as any success we have.

Again, that is my view and my position but I repeat, I have no interest in derailing the Club.

If we were given a binary choice between promotion, or Ashton resigning/being sacked, I'd choose the latter every day of the week.

It's not even a challenging decision.

I appreciate that not everyone would agree, but I'd much rather be a fan of a morally unimpeachable club down in the Conference, than I would of a morally bankrupt club that wins everything going.

Fair. Respect it. But this is football. Good luck finding the morally unimpeachable club to follow.

I'd rather give Ashton a chance to show he can learn from this. Whether you like him as a person or not he's done an undeniably good job of running the club. He might share some common ground with Farage but I haven't seen any evidence that Ashton is a bigot or racist.
