I’m sure I’ve seen this discussed before and maybe even some questions from the club at some point but can’t find it.

Can we not just get rid of the cringey hey Jude just before kick off? The club appear to be making more effort with Edward ebeneezer Jeremiah brown by actually putting the words up for those that don’t know.

Can we know just have that be the build up? Hey Jude gets sung by the opposition fans louder than ours, so in that sense it really isn’t helpful is it? Just a thought to try and keep the away fans quieter even if for a few minutes 🤷🏾 would feel a better build up finishing on a club tune.

I'd be up for just ditching music altogether after the teams have come out, tbh. Let the atmosphere build naturally with the anticipation.

Will never happen though, so yeah, I would prefer a song that away fans can't sing along to as well.

Ashton out

Time for the Ipswich Football Calypso then!

Here in my pocket
I got "The Story Of The Blues"
Try to believe me
'Cause it could be front page news
I say I live with it like it hasn't happened yet
I keep thinking of everyone
How I'm the one, the one they're trying to get
To tell "The Story Of The Blues

First, they take your pride
Turn it all inside
(Oooh) And then, you realise (Oooh)
You've got nothing left to lose (Oooh)
So, you try to stop
Try to get back up
(Oooh) And then, you realise (Oooh)
You're telling "The Story Of The Blues

STORY OF THE BLUES (PART TWO)
"...well that's my story and I'm sticking to that. So let's have another drink and let's talk about the blues. Blues is about dignity, it's about self-respect, and no matter what they take away from you - that's yours for keeps. I remember how it was, how every medium - T.V. and papers and radio and all those people were saying: 'you're on the scrap-heap, you're useless', and I remember how easy it was to start believing that. I remember how you'd hear people take it for granted that it was true - just 'cause someone with an ounce of power said so. And that's a problem now, too many oddballs, too many pocketbook psychologists and would-be philosophers with an axe to grind. But there's a solution, it's not easy, but it's a matter of coming to terms in your heart with situation you're in, a matter of choosing how things go for you and not having things forced upon you. There are plenty of forces against you, forcing you against your will, your ideals - you've got to hope for the best, and that's the best you can hope for - you've got to hope against hope... I remember something Sal Paradise said, he said: 'the city intellectuals of the world are debauched from the full body blood-of-the-land and are just rootless fools.' So listen, when the smile, the condescending pat-on-the-back comes and says: 'we're sorry, but you're nothing, you've got nothing for us and we've got nothing for you,' you say: 'No,' and say it loud: "NO!" and remember, people who talk about revolution and a class-struggle without referring explicitly to everyday life, without understanding what is subversive about love, and what is positive in the refusal and constraint...since people have a corpse in their mouth..."

Have to admit, I really notice it before the Millwall game. The crowd seemed to unite with a chant - cannot remember which one - and then either EEJB or Hey Jude cut in and ruined the spontaneity.

For me, they should do more before kick off to try and get the crowd going. Perhaps the battle of the stands in terms of noise or something like that. At the moment, the build up is just... there.

Playing EE or Hey Jude is fine IMO, but both is just bizarre! It feels very manufactured when Hey Jude randomly cuts in.

Also if we could remove at least some of the 7,000 Ed Sheeran songs that would help stop me going clinically insane every other Saturday.

I've been pleasantly surprised and impressed by the number of fans who seem to be singing along to EEJB these days.

EE is a nice nod to the past but it's hardly rousing is it?

Hey Jude at least creates a bit of noise, even if it a bit generic.

I’m all for noise. And hey Jude is hugely generic. Literally every away end that comes to us gives it the biggun, more so than the home fans.

If the whole stadium is signing EE then surely that’s a noise the away end can’t drown out. Something unique to us. Up to the crowd to make it sound more rousing so to speak.

Surely that depends on where you sit. I sit in the upper north and don't hear a peep from the away end when that comes on. If you sat in the south stand, for example, I'd see why you might be more aware of the away fans.

I don't think EE is remotely good for creating an atmosphere to be honest. It just makes us look like 'a proper old club'.

I agree - you don't need something catchy, or a classic of the genre. You just need something that the fans can sing along to, and want to. After that, the noise will take care of itself.

Case in point is this video I stumbled across the other week:

I'd heard the original a few times and had never considered that it could be something that VfL Bochum would have adopted as a team song but, with 30,000 people singing it in the Ruhrstadion, it works.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

I’d say that Hey Jude comes over about three times as loud as EE. I’ve often wondered why away fans engage with Hey Jude because the team names just blend in and become indiscernible and it just adds to the home atmosphere.

Can we play Enter Sandman at its actual speed, not the sped up version we have?
Or just replace it with Of Wolf and Man? Or maybe not .. wolves..
Errr... FUEL by Metallica instead!

I love Metallica, in case you haven't guessed.
