Happy for him.

He has a big role to play for this last stretch of games so hopefully he can turn in a few more good performances.

As I said to someone yesterday, 20 goals from McAteer in the remainder of the season now.

His work rate on and off the ball, his drive and desire is why he and Burns need to be rotating that right hand role for the remainder of the season.

I've always thought he's got something. He's as fit as a butchers dog and rapid, he's got really good acceleration and straight-line speed. Off the ball he's good, disciplined, we definitely identified the right attributes in him to execute that role. He's Burns-like, but its true he's lacked a bit of composure at times (and a bit of luck, to be fair to him) in the final 3rd.

'Stylistically' its a no brainer for me though, hopefully he and Burns can share the load over the final 630 minutes of the season.

Yeah totally agree.

The Birmingham goal 30 seconds after he missed that chance was just typical of how things have gone for him this year.

Really pleased for him he put the next one away.

His finishing was interesting yesturday, both time he's through on goal he tried calmly slotting home over power.....i'm not sure he caught the ball correctly on the first attempt, and potentially even his goal i feel he got a slight hand from the keeper who seemed to dive over the ball. Think when he gets some confidence going, we'll see more of wes style whacks into to the net. Something about those two attemps just seemed 'safe' which is natural when you've not scored all season.

He's been improving across the season and yesterday was his best game for us. Really pleased for him to score, especially after that earlier miss (and typical of his time here that they went and scored seconds later). Showed good character to tuck that one away. There's definitely a player in there, he's quick and strong and has a decent cross. Decision making and composure have been his main issues but he's getting better in that regard.

Really pleased for him given all the stick he has received, especially at the Den.

One difference yesterday was the ball was played in front of him to run onto. Too many times he's received the ball facing towards our goal as the ball has been played behind him. The former causes the defender issues, the latter makes it easier for the defender.
It was also his initial strong tackle that won the ball which then resulted in him scoring.

Didn't notice in real time, but his aggressive winning of the ball was what started the move for his goal.

And incredibly sensible in the way he went about it, so many times you see players give away fouls in that situation.

23/24 we had omari becoming our late in the season hero

Could mcateer be taking that role on................

Kasey has been improving massively over the last 2 or three month's and yesterday we saw a fantastic performance from him. He is like a new signing for the rest of the season and having him and Wes on the right to start/finish games, will be massive for the run in. On the last few games form, Kasey has maybe moved above Wes in my preference, but two incredible options in the one position.

Keeper never touched got near it, good finish so give him credit.

I thought it an excellent save for the first chance. Goalkeeper got down at the speed of lightning. If he had taken the ball on a yard or two before shooting, I doubt the keeper is getting there.

No i don;t mean the keeper actually touched it, just the keeper gave mcateer a hand in the goal by diving over the shot.

How many good things came from Hutchinson doing exactly that - winning the ball with his back to goal near the halfway, turning and appearing as the player in space at the end of a few quick passes.

They've been working hard with McAteer

To be fair to McAteer on the face of it that's a very neat finish. Took his time and slotted it under the keeper, if that's Clarke we're probably all thinking how intentional it was but McAteer's previous form in front of goal goes against him somewhat with this one.

He's dangerous though, you would hate to play against him. He really should have more assists to his name this season and almost certainly more goals. If he can be more clinical in those areas he's a huge asset.

The other thing to consider is that McAteer is still a couple of years younger than Burns was when we signed him and he was no more than a decent League 1 player at that point. There's definitely potential to improve on the parts of his game that aren't quite there yet.

It's very likely that coming from Leicester, who were a mess last season, plus the price tag and instant judgement haven't made the last year the easiest for him - big moments help a lot with that though.

So many of us have been wishing him to score. After the first opportunity was missed, then Brum scoring with their next attack, I was starting to think you fans might turn. However his work rate and tackling back was excellent and his positioning in front of goal perfect for what was probably our only coordinated attack all game.
So glad he got MOM as he is going to be crucial in the next w noeeks.
