I’ve been for a walk along Brightlingsea beach 09:48 - Apr 18 with 1087 viewsBenters

This morning, there’s something nice about the smell of the sea and mud,it brings many memories of picnics on the beach with one’s folks.

I wouldn’t mind living there the only thing that puts me off is not having a railway station.oh and it doesn’t have a Wetherspoons.

Smashing.

I’m 10 minutes walk for Stokes Bay on the Solent - a nice walk any time of year and always plenty going on.

Having lived and worked by the sea all my adult life I cannot think of living anywhere landlocked.

15 minutes walk from Caswell Bay and the Gower Coastal Path for me. And a nice walk at that down through the woods.

Agreed, I couldn’t live anywhere for long not close to the sea.

15 minutes'drive from Chez FBI to Westward Ho!, which is fab. Spitting distance of Dartmoor and Exmoor if you prefer your wet feet muddy, too.

One thing I love about Suffolk (and it applies to Essex too) is the river estuaries and mudflats.

As a sea scout, I sailed many a weekend day up and down the Deben., or canoed or got stuck in the mud flats as the tide went out. And I always get a warm glow when the train takes me over the Stour at Manningtree and I can see all the way down to Harwich and Felixstowe.

I was in 13th Ipswich Sea Scouts, we spent a lot of time on the Deben, and letting off fireworks around Rushmere, fun times.

I was in the 9th Ipswich on Foxhall Road, situated on the lane which led to Copleston.

As an aside, someone before my time had drowned whilst out sailing, and their parents had donated a boat named in his honour. These days they would have sued the pants of our scout group!

Unfortunately where we live in the Midlands our nearest beach in any direction would be Weston Super Mare to the west which is about 85 miles and Bournemouth to the south which is 115 miles!

I really envy anyone who lives near the sea. I love walking along a beach, swimming in the sea and beach combing.

Morning BB sorry to be picky but it’s said you are never anymore than 70 miles from the sea in dear old Blighty.

Ps I thought you lived in ‘Morse Country’?

I do, but I really don’t know which sea is only 70 miles from me!

Just found this -

‘Oxford is one of the most inland cities in the UK, generally located about 80 to 100 miles (approximately 1.5 to 2.5 hours by car) from the south coast. Popular coastal spots like Bournemouth, Brighton, and the West Wittering beach are among the closest, often reachable within a 2-hour drive.’

I agree with you, but some people do seem to think of it as South Midlands.
