I don't think either of those stills help. The 1st one appears to thinking the question is about Browne, the 2nd isn't when he squares it as Taylor is much closer to him by that point.

FWIW I think Strelec is behind him when its played so looked onside to me.

Not sure if that is the moment the ball is played, looks like that's when he's controlling it. And looks in line anyway if you look at the grass cutting lines on the pitch.

He’s behind the ball - surely that’s ONside?

His feet are, his head isn’t

Sat right in line with that, the scorer was offside when the cross came in, assistant behind the play, not close to in line, no chance that was being given, but he was definitely offside.

That still isn't when he plays the cross though, he takes a big touch from there.

If you look at this at 1:01 he's clearly onside.

If he's level with or behind the ball when the ball is crossed then I don't think he can be offside, and that looked to me to be the case from the upper North.

It also looked to me as if Greaves could have cut out the cross but he seemed to be playing for the offside.

When I saw the replay I thought it was. I think if we were in the Premier League then VAR would have disallowed it, but we're not and they didn't. Unfortunately.

He's not crossing it in the second picture though? Hes further towards the by-line. by the time he crosses. Not sure what straws we are trying to be clutching here?

It's of course irrelevant, as it wasn't give, but I thought it was marginally offside at the time.

As best as I can guess, this is the same frame from 2 angles, when he makes contact with the ball. Looks offside to me.

I must be blind because the strikers body doesn't look past the white line, but the ball is?

That's how I view it, he is behind the ball whether you use the line or the grass cutting.

Fair point - I'm tunnel visioning on Greaves and Strelec.

It’s criminal on our part how the crosser of the ball was not marked properly looking at that top picture.

I don't like blaming people but both goals appear to show that Davis was caught out of position. On their second goal he made a bad pass which led to them getting in behind, a good save by Walton, but tucked away on the rebound.
For whatever reason after a poor Premier League campaign I thought we had overcome this situation of teams getting in behind Davis because he is used to overlap Philogene.
It is up to a midfielder of central defender to cover that position when Davis bombs forward.

The angles further down are better but this is the problem with people judging offsides from pictures. There is no way his head is past the ball. That's just the angle of this frame. If you reversed it his head would look conversely miles behind the ball.

You can only judge this completely side on and he would be behind the ball.

From behind on the diagonal your brain can't process this other than upright body looking like it is forward. (Not a criticism of your brain specifically haha).

Poll: Who do we think McKenna (not you) will partner Greaves with ?
