Anybody else recognise the strike itself was identical in every way to Noel Hunts there roughly 10 years ago?

Noel hunts goal was one of the very sparse highlights that season. The away end went mental.

That was a good away day.

IIRC that win took us top at the time. I still think that January window was the time for Evans to properly back Mick with some money. We were in the top 2 at the time and looking pretty good, but short of quality in a few key areas which ultimately told. Sears was a good addition, but spending a few million vs. £100k could've made all the difference.

As it was we had pretty ropey form in the 2nd half of the season, ended up clinging onto 6th before being totally outclassed by Norwich in the playoffs.

Sears effectively ended up replacing McGoldrick who got injured in that cup game at Southampton so we were net neutral there.

It was away form, well away from outside of London, that cost us. We won all the London games and nearly everything at PR but the rest of the away games.

I was thinking about that play-off tie the other week, we kept Nathan Redmond quiet for most of it but the 15 minutes when he turned it on at Carrow Road was the bit where they won it. It's nice to be on the other end of that part.

Yeah I just checked to refresh my memory. 1st Jan we were 2nd at about 2ppg. Final 22 games after that we got 1.4ppg. Carrying on the form from the first half would've had us 2nd. It was always going to be a big ask but at the very least we might've been more prepared for the playoffs.

Norwich were just the better side by some distance. I remember being a bit annoyed at a couple of well respected ex players after that game saying lazy things like 'we didn't want it enough'. Of all the criticisms of that Mick side, I don't think that was one of them at all. Norwich had come down from the premier league, nearly got top 2, finished plenty ahead of us and were just miles better. Role reversal now really.

I still can't help but feel that Berra should have just let the ball go in. Would have fancied a Mick team to nick something with 11 men.

Well one player in, one out - and Sears got a lot of goals that half-season.

We went to The Valley on the same weekend in three consecutive seasons, the last Saturday in November.

Hunt's winner was the middle of those three.

The first one saw an early goal from Tommy Smith giving us the win, in what was WB Junior's first away game.

The final one of the trio saw a comfortable and impressive 3-0 win.
