Well, yes I mean I would bite both your hands and your feet off for a win. But I would Mick McCarthy my point away from home against a very inform team. Makes Southampton a free crack at a win with QPR as a second go.

These staggered kick off times and days late in the season does open things up to these sort of 'arrangements' shall we say. That West Germany v Austria game at 1982 World Cup changed the rules in terms of final group games being played at the same time.

I wonder whether that will play on the players minds now. A point would make wba safe and leave things in our hands. Shake on it now
| Would bite your hand off for a draw tomorrow right now. on 23:29 - Apr 24 with 1399 views | _CliveBaker_ | That would be a very workable outcome. Then a win on Tuesday to confirm it. | | | |
| Would bite your hand off for a draw tomorrow right now. on 00:01 - Apr 25 with 1260 views | Trequartista | A draw at WBA is not of much use. We'll still need to beat Southampton or QPR whether we draw or lose so might as well go for the win which will leave us almost there. The nerves on the last day will mean only needing a draw rather than a win will be vital, so a win and a defeat to WBA and Southampton are much better than 2 draws, and additionally 2 draws is no better than a defeat to WBA and a draw with Southampton . It would be of huge use, it puts us back in 2nd and means we wouldn’t need a result at St Mary’s to keep it in our hands. | | | |

Every points a prisoner, keep it under lock and key. Can we get Mick Mac in to the manage the team for one game only? 😂 5-4-1 with 2 holding midfielders, Kasey and Johnson on the wings, Leif told in no uncertain terms to not cross the halfway line

I don't think the benefit of that outweighs the arguments I've made against. "Keep it in our hands" meaning needing 3 points against QPR is not really what we want from this position, whereas 1 point on the last day, which we've achieved in 21 of our 22 home matches so far, is a big jump from that.

Obviously 3 points is more valuable than 1, but it would be a very workable result tomorrow to go back 2nd and guarantee it’s in our hands on the final day, with the potential to confirm it before then.

It’s in the other thread. Here’s a copy and paste. No one is obviously saying a draw is better than a win (that would actually be insane) but matching Millwall's result and getting 4 points ahead of saints before Tuesday, would be absolutely massive. See; Going into St Mary’s with a 4 point cushion when a goal difference could still swing is obviously huge and it guarantees beating QPR secures PL football. Of course a win would be nice but it’s really about not losing two in a row, to ensure it’s in our hands last day. And; If we lose tomorrow and Southampton beat us that’s a MINIMUM of a 3 goal swing meaning they can just outscore us by a few last day to finish above us. It’s vitally important not to have that in consideration for them, if we are 4 points above them you’d think they’d pretty much be in playoff mode considering our home fixture in the finale. A loss tomorrow changes the dynamics of the Southampton game massively. There’s a reason they didn’t shoot to 100-1 or something mid week. Millwall dropping points and us losing would would put them back in play. The fact we don’t have to win tomorrow to keep it in our hands last day is huge. [Post edited 25 Apr 0:24]

Tbh if we lose tomorrow and at St Mary’s it’s probably Millwall that get 2nd anyway, they’ll have too much for Oxford in front of that crowd and on such an occasion. As you say, absolutely massive we get a point from the next 2 at least, and going to St Mary’s needing it is a prospect I don’t really like the sound of. Get something tomorrow.

Well 3 points against Oxford does guarantee Milwall finish above them but I do think that if Southampton know that only one has to slip up at home compared to both of us it does throw things into a different perspective. They also know Millwall are a bit beat up and don’t always find a way at home. Simply don’t lose tomorrow and I’m incredibly confident of promotion (like 85-90%). Win and surely it’s all but done. Lose and the potential for all hell to let loose is in play. Need to avoid the chaos! [Post edited 25 Apr 0:35]

As I've already said, the gap between needing 1 point v QPR and needing 3 points v QPR is much bigger than the jeopardy of losing to WBA when going for a win to only pick up one point, especially as that point is literally worthless if we then draw with Southampton. You're pinning too much on "keeping it in our hands on the last day" or in more precise terms "needing to beat QPR". I would agree with you if we were in a weaker position, but it's too cautious for the position we are in. [Post edited 25 Apr 0:51]

It's not that 3 points is more valuable than 1 (it is, but that's not my point) it is that the gap between 3 points and 1 point versus 0 points and 1 is bigger, both literally in points terms and also in the results we then need to get. The risk/reward is in favour of risking losing 1 point in favour of gaining 3 in the WBA game. That's always the case ceteris paribus, but even more so considering we need to win 1 game and that is the game with most chance of winning. [Post edited 25 Apr 0:54]

Even if I agreed with your opinion (which I don’t) the idea a draw does nothing for us is very obviously and provably wrong. It quite literally takes us back second and guarantees we will be second going into the last day.
