Our corners were fairly poor on Tuesday (arguably have been all season if Leif hasnt been taking them). Often not managing to past the first man or find an Ipswich head.
I can't help but wonder why we no longer do the 23/24 style direct corner to a player on the edge of the box to have a shot. Chappers was unreal at taking on that shot and hitting the target at the very least. Surely there has to be another player in the team able to be just as effective at that range?!
Edit - Would be one hell of a way to put one foot into the prem tomorrow... Taylor would be the obvious candidate but may be too obvious if he isn't in the mix... Matusiwa?
We win an awful lot of first contacts in the box. We really should have scored more this season. DOS in particular is guilty of blowing some big opportunities.
Interestingly enough, Town are top for "big chances missed", partly because we create more but partly because our strikers are quite profligate. We are only 10th for "set piece goals" so that would imply we are well below average at corners. We are 6th for set piece goals conceded, but that probably reflects that we concede fewer dangerous set pieces. We are top for penalty kicks awarded, with 10, when the next highest has only 6. That will irk some people!

DOS has the highest first contacts in the league so our corners aren't quite as terrible as they look on paper.
I would say we've scored more goals this season pressing teams in their own third and recovering the ball, than we have when in possession ourselves with a corner!! Set piece coach absolutely stealing a living!!
My view is that we are far too static at corners, grouping around a line between the penalty spot and the goal line.
We never seem to have anyone coming from deep who can adjust to the flight of the ball and get more power on the header.
And we also don't have players like Smith and Berra who had an eye for goal, the former scoring 21 goals in 247 appearances, and the latter 14 in 174. At a rate of roughly 1 goal per 12 games each, this would have averaged out at 7 or 8 goals per season between them.

Will irk some people? I get the impression it already has!

We very rarely get anything from corners. I'd like, just now and again, maybe try a short corner or pull it back to someone just outside the box.
I did think with Southampton putting two up front from our corners, that the short corner was a good option to bring even more of their players out of the box.
Was anyone else disappointed that Walton didn’t go up for the corner Tuesday after the keeper made the worldie save at the end. Or was it just me? I’m not sure we had a lot to lose and they were on the ropes.

Spot on. The movement is virtually non existent. Occasionally OShea comes across the near post but if he doesn't, nobody does. Too many standing jumps, too interested in grappling and nobody coming from 18 yards out attacking the ball. The delivery of the corner is actually much better than in previous seasons.
We were decent from their corners - there was one near the end of the first half when Jaden won the ball on the edge of our box, raced forwards, and really he should have banged it from the half way line - their keeper was miles out of his ground!
