| Staying up 13:39 - May 3 with 1024 views | dowsie3 | I actually think we will have a better chance of staying up next season then last season the main reason is I think the premier league is weaker next year then when we last went up .When we got promoted in 24 the 3 teams who got promoted in 23 all got relegated this time you are going to get 2 established premier teams come down Wolves being one and either Spurs or West Ham . I can see us finishing above the other promoted teams and then just need to finish above 1 other team Sunderland or Leeds would be the 2 I would fancy us to finish above both could get 2nd season syndrome more so Sunderland IMO | | | | |

Also our style will be a lot more pragmatic from the start, I imagine 3 central defenders maybe.

Add the fact we are more solid defensively which will stand us in better stead. Also we are a more attractive proposition to better players this time around. We’d have learned from previous mistakes. Without doubt we have a better chance staying up next season.

I dont understand your first sentence. You are not talking about transfer value, surely. Anyway, we start from a much better place than last time. We know what we are up against. There wont be so much faffing with the football ground and we even have decent training facilities. The players we have are better individually than those they replaced, for the most part. Evidence? Besides what I’ve witnessed our results against the parachute teams last time were tolerable but we were outplayed by all three of them and year two team WBA, spirit and attitude digging us out against Leicester and Southampton in particular. Leeds hammered us twice. We haven't been beaten like that by any of the top teams this time. The closest was Middlesbrough bettering us at their flat pack hovel. We undoubtably need to strengthen in the forwards dept and midfield. It’s key for any team and for a promoted one like say Sunderland, utterly crucial. But i believe we have more, better players this time that are improving all the time as a team. I would like to see enhancement with a few key players rather than a replace the lot strategy. I mean everyone said our style of play was suited to the Premier league last time, and it turned out not quite that way. plus you have to remember things like, every mistake you make in defence, ends up in a goal for the opposition, and we have made a fair few mistakes in defence this season. some of the teams we play are built like rugby props and corner kicks turn into wrestling matches. and then some of the other teams, like Arsenal, spend all their time throwing themselves to the ground at the merest touch, and always get freekicks, remember the big team ref bias and sure Burnley/Wolves have been terrible this season, but I still think you need 40+ pts to stay up this season, and then you look at midtable and all those teams are very close on points. whilst Leeds,Palace & Forest are still in the relegation fight. its going to be tricky I think.

Also hopefully a much stronger squad might surprise a few teams. We just have to wait and see if KMc will still be our manager.

But after that it's going to be massive change to see us mid table every season rather than the three promotions we've been used to recently. Maybe we'll be like Burnley and win promotion every two season forever.

Yeah, although for our back 5 we largely have the same players as last year and that didn’t end well. What the last year has done is hopefully given us the financial headway to step up a level in recruitment, so the players we signed for last time around effectively become our new backup. That would be the idea as I think we need at least 3 better starters in that back 5. Although I can see Dara still being a regular.

Walton 3M Davis 20M Furlong 3M Greaves 15M O’Shea 20M Matisiwa £17 Taylor 4M Clarke 23M Philogene 23M Nunez 7M Hirst 7M That’s a very approximate guess with little thought admittedly.

Ross Barkley would be ideal in central midfield alongside Azor. Still only 32 and out of contract at Villa.
