Quizzed on whether promotion hastens the rebuild of the Cobbold Stand, a medium to long-term aim, Ashton added: “Over the next couple of months you will see numerous plans coming out for Portman Road and the areas around Portman Road.
“We work really well with the council, they’ve been really supportive. Not only do we want to build a football club, we want to help regenerate this town. We’re passionate about that.
“I’d say watch this space because I think there’ll be more things coming out over the next few months.”
Not sure we've talked about this.
Will it be plans for the Cobbold? Plans for the roof being popped off the West Stand and another tier being chucked on top? (Good God that will be high) As I suspect - The council starting work on the Aquatic Centre and the line of Portman Road being shifted? Or Something Else?

I may be rude ( I live in Straya ), but the crown pool building was always too small. Ipswich should have at least one Olympic size swimming pool. A new pool in the Portman road area could allow for that. However I did notice the proposed new pool was only 25m long. It's been 44 years since I lived in Ipswich but as a kid in the 1960's we had 2 indoor pools at 25 yards. Fore Street and St.Mathews Baths, and 2 outdoor at 50 yards, Broom Hill, and Pipers Vale. It's not good that the town facilities are now less than what they were 50 plus years ago. Is this typical of all sporting and recreational facilities now? Where is the closest open to the public 50 metre pool to Ipswich?

earliest we will see some building work at PR will be in 27/28 season
Apparently two new turnstiles going into the Cobbold this summer. But yes, the stuff we are talking about will be 27/28 at the earliest.
However, with it being such a huge project, I think plans and planning applications are probably imminent. The club will have to deal with the inevitable objections from residents in Alderman Road and for a project this size it will take a good 6-8 months just to go through the process of inviting tenders and then appointing contractors.

I’ve posted this previously but Palace’s plan would suit us perfectly when it comes to upgrading the Cobbold…
“The construction of the new stand will look to be built around the existing structure, with the aim of keeping the stadium fully operational throughout the build. The video below demonstrates how this process is envisaged to take place.”
Exactly how I imagined it being done, I also expect some symmetry between Cobbold & West stand.
Portman Road will be up to date and a thing of beauty.

I don't think it'll be anything near that timeframe re. objections. If the North Stand got built, a new Cobbold Stand wouldn't affect Alderman Rd residents anywhere near as much.

A word of caution. The construction sector is headed into a rough period, costs of materials are sky high and going up, and a growing Reform will likely lead to far fewer skilled construction workers as fewer will wish to come here and those that are here will increasingly be made to feel less welcome.
The Palace stand (to increase from around 4,000 seats to 13,000 and, as you say, to be constructed over the existing stand) was initially set to cost around £100m, and last estimates nearly a year ago put it at £200m. I am sure it's even higher now and some are speculating it may not happen.
We all love improved (and ideally good!) architecture, but it's increasingly hard to do in this climate. Gamechanger would need to throw serious money at it, and have a very long term strategy to repay it which would require years and years in the Premier league. It's a real risky game.

I'm with you, I find it utterly bizarre, are there that many kids into Swimming? My boys and all their friends learnt to swim, after that they had no interest.
