Throwing some names out there 21:54 - May 6 with 5038 viewssurreyblue

Very little research done. Basically just looked over each Prem club's wiki page for this season. Would assume that most of these aren't realistic, but a man can dream.

GK: James Trafford

Def: Tosin Adarabioyo; James Justin; Nicola Savona

Mid: Lewis Cook; Will Hughes; Tim Iroegbunam; Tom Cairney; Wataru Endo; Ryan Yates

AM: Harvey Elliot; Ben Gannon-Doak

ST: William Osula

Lewis Cook is a great shout. We were semi-interested last summer.

Radek Vitek would be my tip for the GK position. Stunning season at Brizzle. Huge potential and similar frame to Muric (but less of a 'maverick').

Raul Jimenez on a 1-year deal as understudy to our top striker would also be a great deal IMO.

Need Azon gone then as he will have PTSD when Vitek walks through the door.

I'd take him as the second choice, but I don't think he's enough stardust to be our #9.

I wouldn't play him in the 9, he would be my 10.

I'd love a few more players with Premier League experience, but we're probably better off looking overseas in terms of value and pulling power. Giving players the opportunity to play in the best league in the world is probably quite a sell, albeit comes with some risks. Getting players out of Premier League clubs is going to be more difficult.

I wonder if we'll go for Zian Flemming? Had a very good season for Burnley and in a position we'll almost certainly be looking to strengthen. Still annoyed we didn't sign him from Millwall last time we went up tbh, £7m was a snip and he had been class for them.

I think we were in for him in January, but was reliant on Burnley getting one over the line which didn't happen - may have been Fofana from Chelsea but he went to Strasbourg so BluCo could fiddle the books

Nobody fancy Vipotnik and Azeez if Millwall fail to get promoted. We were after Azeez in the January window.

Azeez and Hackney would be the only 2 Championship players I try for, personally.

I've watched a lot of Swansea, half my family hail from the area, and I don't think Vipotnik is our kind of player at all. Great goalscorer at Championship level, clinical finisher, but really doesn't have many of the other attributes that KM demands of his strikers. I'd be surprised if he gets a PL move this summer, Championship feels his level.

Equally I'd be a little disappointed if we went back for Azeez, top Championship player, but given our status and resources, I'd hope we'd be aiming a little higher. We tried signing the best Championship players last time and it didn't work, for the money it would cost to sign Azeez you'd assume there are better options from Europe.

I wouldn't tar the whole championship with the same brush. Clarke, Hutchinson and Delap had only ever played at that level when we signed them and have proved to be some of the better acquisitions. Meanwhile we signed Kalvin Phillips from Man City and Ben Godfrey from Serie A who had hundreds of PL appearances between them.

I'd like some more premier league experience in the squad but ultimately we need to sign players that are good enough for the level and better than what we've got. I'd say Azeez looks to be both.

Stats on Swansea bear out your view of Vipotnik - doesn't win a lot of headers (or duels full stop), complete many passes (or create any chances), doesn't see a lot of the ball, gets dispossessed a lot, doesn't make a lot of defensive contributions.

The big thing in his favour is that his shooting efficiency this season has been ridiculous - 23 goals from 87 shots (26.4% of his shots went in) is incredible. Think for data people shooting stats come with a huge health warning. Players just have hot seasons where everything goes in and when they regress to their mean. Vipotnik's previous seasons 10 goals in 84 shots in Ligue 2, 7 goals in 56 shots in the Championship.

Just for a final warning from history -
Chuba Akpom, 2022/23, 28 goals from 99 shots, 28% shooting efficiency.

It would be wonderful to have norGaard soe that we have a fine Danish player once more.

No idea whether it's even faintly possible, mind.

I like the idea of Christian Norgaard from Arsenal. Hardly played for them this year and was very good as Brentford’s captain. (Sorry I posted before seeing the above reply!!)

Also not forgetting that players like Wharton and Rogers were in the championship not too long ago. There's definitely some players who will be able to step up

And the less said about our "prem experienced" players the better. You can add Ben Johnson to the list, who we probably had much higher hopes for than being a useful squad player in the championship!

Ultimately it's probably going to be a mix of players with orem experience, top level championship players, and unknown quantities from abroad. As it should

"Ultimately it's probably going to be a mix of players with prem experience, top level championship players, and unknown quantities from abroad. As it should"

Spot on.

As you say there are plenty of players who have made the step up very comfortably. I'd think a few eyebrows were raised at West Ham when they signed Antonio and Bowen, both of which 24 / 25 at the time and come from lower leagues. Probably 2 of their best signings in the past 10 years.

They're not all born equal though, I think players like Hackney and Azeez look very ready for that step, if we can sign 2 or 3 of that ilk I would be all for it.

I think generally players from the EFL find it easier to make the step up when they aren't coming in to be an automatic first choice. The pressure if off a bit when you move to a club where, if you don't perform well, you can be taken out of the firing line for a bit.

Alex Scott at Bournemouth is a good example - a couple of seasons bedding in before becoming a clear starter this season

Of course, I'm certainly not suggesting that there aren't players who can step up. I just feel, in the case of Azeez, if he's coming in as a big money signing, and probably our main solution to the RW role, that there might be better options available. I'm not totally convinced by him, but very happy to be proved wrong. My worry is that we'll approach recruitment in the same way we did last time and rely too much on new players who can't step in and contribute immediately. Jaden and Jack both came in and had to adjust to both the new team and a new league and took a fair while to bed in, arguably they didn't until we were back in the Championship, and I don't think Azeez is as talented as either of them.

I keep reading we cannot source from the champ. This cannot be the case, its selecting the right players with the right attributes to give us the tools we need no matter where they play their football. I get that we perhaps over did it last time and need a range of talents and experiences but that strategy didnt fail, it failed to secure PL status, it helped secure promotion to the PL at the fist time of asking (with a bit of a struggle). Keep the mind open to all the possibilities.

Perhaps we need to think outside of the box. Imagine how hard communication would be if a defence has to communicate who is marking Azaz, Azeez, Azon and Azor at the same time.

You have to assume from the kind of money that was reportedly on the table in January that we definitely think he's good enough.

Can see why we like him though - good aerially, good movement, crosses off either foot, shooting threat in off the right, does a ton of defensive work and presses well. Basically if you combined Wes Burns, Kasey McAteer and Sindre Walle Egeli's good attributes in one player.
