He really isn't, in reality he's the PL version of Wes Burns. It's his football IQ not his speed that does the damage, incredible work ethic, timing of his movement and his quality on the ball, he's a serious player.
He'd be an incredible signing, but I can't see it happening, half the PL will be after him. Given his affection for, and his ties to the club, I wouldn't even say it's a given that he leaves. I could totally see him staying a year to get them back up. |  | | |

I think it's very unlikely but not impossible.
He's happy where he is at the moment, the only chance I think we'd have is if he wanted to stay in the PL for his England career and didn't want to move, I still think it's unlikely though - he would be a fantastic signing if we could pull it off though. |  |

I think you are way out with 12-14. If we have only around £110 million or so to spend you aren't getting 12-14 players for that.
My own opinion is two at around £35 million and two at £20 million plus three loan players.
We also cannot have the same situation trying to bed players in up until Christmas as we would most likely be relegated by then.

This is true regarding Xhaka. But the fact that he's so often cited is evidence that it was a massive coup for Sunderland to get him.
Enormous quality, enormous experience, not yet over the hill, decent price, coming from another league, so no concerns about selling to a rival, and yet utterly proven in the PL. No idea how Sunderland beat everyone else to Xhaka, when he was clearly high quality and low risk.
If we can pull off a coup like that, especially in a key position like Xhaka's, then we will have done unbelievably well. I can't think of any comparable deal done by a newly promoted club in recent times.
Players like that don't come around very often. Occasionally a smaller team gets a great season out of a Barkley type - a high quality player who was really rated in younger years but who's lost their way slightly. But for every Barkley, there is a Kalvin Phillips, or even a Franny Jeffers. That sort of signing is usually pot luck.
One signing of Xhaka's quality, and we can start to properly imagine staying up. But no, Bowen will not be signing for us.
