That’s nonsense. He couldn’t wait to get of Southampton because the manger wasn’t playing him. The deal was all but done to bring him back, but we managed to fcuk it up by losing against them that weekend and Saints pulled the plug believing they still had an outside chance of catching us and staying up. |  |

Agree. Decent championship player and that’s his level. I’ve not been overly impressed on the few occasions I’ve noticed him in the past couple of years.

I don't think it had gone as far as being all but done but my understanding from various angles was that he was far from averse to a return and that it was the Saints who dug their heels in. On deadline day Town were keeping their powder dry, waiting to see whether Southampton would decide to take the cash for a player they weren't playing. |  | | |

I'm confident that wasn't the case, Town offered £15m, Saints wouldn't sell to a rival, Flynn was very keen to move on at that point. Whether Town and his agent had provisionally agreed terms, I don't know. Just looked back at my messages from the time and no doubt he wanted to move on at that point. Perhaps not surprising he's outlining a different narrative now. | | | |
