| It's a shame Simpson didn't stay at town 16:02 - May 19 with 1875 views | FrimleyBlue | He admitted he regrets leaving and was open about just moving for the money, but I often wonder how many of his injuries would have happened if he stayed at town and what a shame he's not with us as his build and power with development behind him, he could have become a beast for the club up top. ( Obviously that's guessing he would have developed and also that he would not have got injured in the process) | |

No it's more of a general pondering if his career would have played out differently We've had a few injury issues for a few players since gamechanger came in, but it seems compared to other clubs it's been pretty good, so just wondered really if had he stayed could his career have been different or if it would have been a case his body would have broken down regardless of where he was Wasn't intended to be insightful

| It's a shame Simpson didn't stay at town on 16:14 - May 19 with 1657 views | Radlett_blue | Since leaving Town, Simpson has scored 5 League goals in 77 games. He's just been released by Stevenage. With some players, they don't kick on partly as a result of injuries, but sometimes either they weren't good enough or didn't work hard enough. | |

Shame for him as that's the only decent spell he's really had in his career

Because he was worth a couple of million after scoring a few in league 2 9 in 25, but being in the banter years we had forgot to give him a new deal to mitigate this situation. The sad bit is for him and others like him taking the money is great but if he want to fulfill your potential the worst thing.

He didn't 'take the money', he got offered a rubbish short deal which wasn't even commensurate with what players at Swindon were getting; and then signed a 4 year deal at Huddersfield who were in a higher division than us. We just tried to bounce him into a bad deal

Yep. He probably did the right thing for his career and finances, but ultimately wasn't good enough to perform at that level.

| It's a shame Simpson didn't stay at town on 17:02 - May 19 with 1143 views | _CliveBaker_ | The deal Ipswich put in front of him was an insult, while he was given a 4 year deal at Huddersfield on £200k a year and a nice signing on fee. It was a no brainer to move. Whether his long term prospects with us would've been better who knows, but we've not exactly had a track record of giving academy players a chance in that period. I also don't think he was ever especially talented. I've known Tyreece since he was a kid and he's always been a freak physically but not an especially good footballer. IMO. | | | |

He was offered a bad deal as we thought he wasn’t worth the money, as 19 yo and had 20 or so good games in league 2 only in his career. He took the money, rather than stay and develop in a more conducive environment. He clearly wasn’t ready for the championship as was found out.

The phrase 'took the money' is bandied around like it shouldn't be an important consideration for a young footballer. It's a really short career, only a few make it to the level where it will set them up for life, for the rest (like Simpson) you simply can't ignore the offer of a good pay packet from a team in a higher division. He had a brief period where his stock was high, and capitalised on it. He probably wouldn't have ever got a look in here, especially once the investment came in. [Post edited 19 May 17:42]

It’s tricky and a big issue in our game, where would Omari be if we hadn’t picked him on loan ? We will never know if Simpson made the right choice or not, but he must look back and think what if ? £200k a year is hardly life changing and maybe that lost season made a big difference or maybe not. He would probably stayed at Swindon and kept scoring and developing and then moved up to league 1. [Post edited 19 May 17:50]

Try that again?!?! £200k a year (a £800k contract) is hardly life changing to a 20 year old?! 😮😮

Another day another occasion where you're wrong I said hirst hadn't performed his overall role as well as i felt he did in previous seasons, plus i wanted hirst to play over delap in the prem due to his links with other players, so no i did think hirst was crap. i did at one point have a direct moan about his performance levels, but that still wasn't saying his was crap, was more me wanting him back to his best. sorry if that upsets you. But another attempt by you on another day trying to erm i dunno what you're trying, just a bizarre forum stalker you've become. But anyway, my point isn't about simpson and his performances since he left town, it was mainly around his injury issues and if it may have different for him if he stayed due to our appearingly high levels of medical staff

I think the took the money thing is mainly used now because hes kind of admitted it himself and regrets it by the way he talks about it, but he's also acknowledged that he did and that's that really, nothing can be done about it.

And if someone is offering you a 4 year contract for £200k a year and willing to spend around half a million quid on a fee, and another club is willing to give you £40k for one year, which one would you think is more invested in your development?
