Can't see any way we end up signing him. I imagine the likes of Brighton, Brentford, Palace etc. would all be in for him. Maybe even someone like Spurs, I wouldn't rule out Villa going back in for him if they can get him cheaper than the pre-agreed £35m which put them off playing him and triggering the clause. Emery still spoke pretty highly of him and his attitude, they just don't want to go to that kind of fee to keep him. It'd be a pretty staggering bit of business for a newly-promoted club to sign him. |  |

Even their report suggests the source is questionable, his wage demands are likely to be out of our reach and he'll be looking for a landing spot higher than the bottom end.

Yeah he’s a decent writer, but I stopped my sub recently as I just don’t think there’s much on offer in terms of insight that we don’t know.
I generally prefer podcasts for commutes etc but there’s a couple on there I struggle to listen to tbh. | |

I'm sure we'd be asking the question, the issue is that the answer almost certainly rules us out. Fine to show ambition but as fans we also need to have some realism about the players we're likely to be able to attract. | |

Sadly is, this is Ashtons problem this window. We're up against established
( some smaller!) Clubs in the PL gir players signatures. Its tough to persuade these quality players to take a chance on us. Weve almost got to prove to them we have it in us to survive, without them, first. |  |

Its a funny situation with Elliott. He left Liverpool as he wanted more game time, went to Villa and again didn't get game time. Everyone keeps talking about it was purely related to the price tag, but do people really think if Elliott was destroying the opposition in every game, Emery would give a shlt about the price tag?
Elliott is 23 now, and has only been able to play a handful of games over the last 2 seasons, that cannot continue.
Now I'm not saying we have a chance to get him, but he will become another "if only" stat if he doesn't start playing regularly, and he would play regularly at Ipswich.
Look at Ross Barkley, ok he was older, but took a move to Luton to get his career moving again, ironically probably taking Elliott's place in the Villa team.
Sometimes you need to take a small step back to take a bigger step forward, even if you have to take a pay cut. |  | | |
