I hadn't considered, that I actually think would be a great fit-
Graham Potter.

He's currently managing Sweden at the World Cup and really we need our new man in situ ASAP, so I suspect that sadly rules him out somewhat.

Here's my immediate list of yes and no's - just to wind some of you up.

YES
Graham Potter
Ange Postecoglu
Brendan Rodgers
Liam Rosenior
Sean Dyche
Tony Mowbray
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Thomas Frank (also on a sabbatical, sadly)
Gareth Southgate (not sure why one of the national teams most successful ever managers would want to come to Ipswich, but I have seen his name mentioned)

NO
Gary O'Neil
Scott Parker
Steven Gerrard
Rob Edwards
Steve Cooper
Phillipe Clement
Danny Rohl
Carlos Corberan

I don’t understand why no one is talking about Roger Schmidt. He would be my current choice out of all of the realistic options.

Ange and OGS would be in my "certain relegation" managers picks so I'd move those to no. Way too attacking and specifically with Ange, he wont change.

From your YES list Mowbray has just taken a job, Southgate I don't think it looking for coaching work at the moment and Frank is unlikely

I would rule out Potter because of his Sweden contract and the fact he was rubbish in his last 2 English jobs. Ange's all out attack style would be suicide for us in the PL.

Ruling them out leaves us with Rodgers, Rosenior, Dyche and Solskjaer!!

I think Dyche wouldn't be a bad option - he's most likely out of all the managers to be able to keep us up and establish us as a safe PL team.

For a more Ashton appointment I'd go for Carsley, he's done well with England U21's and seniors playing a good style of football

And Rosenior’s taking a break. Carsley is a good shout although a bit of a jump into club football. He’s similar to Steve Cooper (FA England product).

We need to appoint someone who may keep us up, but if not can get us back up again at the first time of asking.

The worst thing that could happen is we get relegated, sack the manager and start all over again in the Championship.

The ideal candidate did too good a bloody job as caretaker of Man U.

Like BFJ did at Everton! This season will be pragmatic, dull, ugly points gained, and ultimately, survival. And if that happens, it’ll be a bigger achievement than promotion. No pitch invasion though. That would be more embarrassing than Norwich’s tennis ball protest.

Aren’t these just basic qualities for any solid professional manager?
I understand he will have a good knowledge of young players, due to his current role- just not sure that’s enough, or even particularly useful?

"The last Ipswich manager to consistently develop and trust young talent from our Youth Team was Joe Royle." Discuss.
