If the latter don’t we need someone who would know the squad and have a lot of knowledge of how we play? George Hirst for eg knows his role inside out. Is he going to be able to adapt to new ideas? New guy will have one pre season to get his ideas over. If he wants to change things is 6 weeks going to be long enough? Gotta wonder.

I think Oshea is safe, I think Azor will be well liked. But with a new manager... I do think they may look to replace it for much bigger, more athletic players than what we have.

He'll want to play a similar formation and know plenty of the backroom staff, so minimal upset, though he'll obviously want to bring in a sprinkling of his own players.

I think Knutsen might be that fit. If continuity of playing style isn't a key requirement and a manager is appointed who doesn't fit that style they will change the style to suit them. This will be easier due to the requirement for a number of new signings anyway. All players have to be able to adapt over their careers with different managers. It is unlikely that Hirst will be first choice striker here whoever the new manager is. Whoever we sign for that role will presumably be a good fit to the manager's chosen style. If there isn't that joined up thinking, there is something seriously wrong with our recruitment. EDIT: Plus Hirst will be allowed extra time off after the World Cup anyway so will be behind others when it comes to the start of the season. [Post edited 13 Jun 19:55]

But that only works if that fits with what the new person wants. In a sense it was easy for McKenna. I got the impression that Cook and he wanted the game played more or less the same way - open and free flowing. It’s just that KM was able to take it forward and implement it. He was also a better fit for the club as a whole which is important. Dreaming here, but if we were to employ a Pochettino (sadly no chance) it’d work. A Dyvh? Forget it. It’s a tough one.

If we can add another Matusiwa type we could maybe play with Leif and the LW boys in the same way, but have a more withdrawn central 10 as more of an 8 and allow the RW to come inside more. That keeps the system pretty similar but a bit more conservative to start off with.
