| Thunder bugs. 16:37 - Jun 13 with 696 views | StochesStotasBlewe | The air is thick with the little feckers this afternoon. Invasion of dozey blue bottle flies indoors. The joy of living in the countryside I guess 😁 | |
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

It's been a long while since I've seen a proper cloud of thunderbugs. I remember the days when car number plates used to get smothered in them every summer.

It didn’t help matters wearing a mustard coloured top. They’re leaving me alone now I’ve changed into a dark t-shirt 👍

| Thunder bugs. on 17:32 - Jun 14 with 254 views | greyhound | My lad played a football tournament this morning and they absolutely ruined the last couple of games. Kids were hot and sweaty and absolutely covered in them. Poor lads couldn't concentrate on anything other than trying to brush them off... And yeah they were playing in yellow. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Thats why they decreased in numbers, more people driving cars killed millions of them, they couldn't breed in sufficient numbers to recover.
| Thunder bugs. on 17:38 - Jun 14 with 241 views | Europa | Wow, that takes me back 40-50 years. No thunderbugs here in Central Europe. I've become an expert at checking crevices for ticks though. Nasty disease-bearing blighters (I believe this is increasingly becoming a problem in the UK, too). | | | |

That is seriously deadpan humour. Right? You nearly baited me into a lecture on symptoms and causes. :-)

not necessarily, they damage plants, and can spread plant diseases. it also means their natural predators are clearly not around at the moment in lots of numbers as theyd be feasting like kings if they were. its abit unusual to see them before harvest, and its not been warm/humid enough lately, even if we've had a few storms. but they are swarming for sure, spent 3hrs on the bike constantly getting covered in them.

Come hang out with me, I must have been an insect superhero in a past life as they are attracted to me like like anything. Mosquitoes live me, watched the little one play cricket and was attacked by thunder bugs from start to finish and had to go in doors to get away from them. Horse flies also live me.
