We’re on today’s Bargain Hunt.

They had a small article about football chants and Nodges claim to fame was their ‘on the ball city’is the oldest chant in the World.😵‍💫

It might be the oldest chant but it is rubbish.

"Hurrah, we've scored a goal" Even they mumble that bit as it's so embarassing.

Well Wiki (yes I know) has this ...

"Other early football chants still sung today include "Pompey Chimes" or "Play up, Pompey" sung by Portsmouth fans since the 1920s and based on the Westminster Quarters (a form of the chant is believed to have been sung at Fratton Park in the 1890s and was officially published in 1900, therefore it is arguably older than "On the Ball, City")"

They can't even add that to their honours...it's not the oldest chant in the world...at number 6 in this list, Wolves get to claim that honour

https://www.classicfm.com/comp

It's the oldest one that's still sung today (and even that is debatable)

That claim is based on a typo. It's officially the oddest chant in the world.

The whole thing seems like a rushed and jumbled version of the Eton boat song to me.

It sort of starts off OK - the first two lines, which we all know - but then just seems to descend into a mess of something weird about rugby (not sure if that's right?), and then they all fall over themselves until it all peters out.

I'm sure they like it though, and it is old, which I do appreciate has value, but it is not fit to wash the laces on the boots of EEJB which, although similarly quirky, has great rhythm and energy and fun and a crescendo.

Allegedly the oldest, but why doesn't it have a tune?

Once they realise it is only the 10th oldest chant or whatever it is, they might recall that history means nothing.

Then again, that still leaves them in their rightful place doesn't it? And they will still be able to celebrate participating in the oldest chants top 50.

There's something about the way she says £20 - "Twehn... teepounds" - which makes me want to take up a career in accounting.
